Would not necessarily recommend this place, and it’s definitely overpriced … $36 (before tip but including tax and small, round-up donation) for two primo size subs, which is a step up from the smallest, one bag of chips, and a small pasta salad. You are sort of forced to buy the primo size sub unless you want the sub par regular white roll without sesame seeds. Otherwise, I would prefer to get a small sub since I most often get the primo for the bread and end up tossing half of it. I think this place has potential, and they seem to use better ingredients than most other “fast food” establishments. However, the service is sloooow even when there are two customers in the place, and of the six times we’ve tried this place so far, our order was messed up over half of the time. We haven’t even tried placing an online order after the second time because it was always screwed up. The only reason we went back after the first time is due to a lack of other options because McMurray has probably one of the worst restaurant selections in Pittsburgh; they had also just opened and were still working out the kinks the first time we tried it, so we wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I was excited to see they had a new Thanksgiving sub, which is why we stopped in today to give it one more try. I had high hopes. However, the turkey tasted very gamey, and the proportions of ingredients on the sandwich were absurd … the slightest smear of cranberry (blink and you’d miss it), an average amount of turkey sort of balled up and not distributed evenly on the bread, and finally, an insane amount of stuffing (had to remove like 75% of it) all pushed to the outer edge of the sandwich. The only silver lining was that they actually left the mayo off this time. I realize these are small problems to have compared to most, but honestly, I would suggest saving your $36 or spending...
Read moreFull disclosure: I'm a chef and relatively picky. Was going to stop at their competitor but missed the turn so I thought I would give Primo a try. Opted for the 9" philly cheese steak. Menu is kinda busy, took me a while to find it. Cashier asked me what I wanted on it. I just assumed it would be a traditional cheese steak, peppers, onions, cheese so I told her nothing. So I ended up with just cheese and steak on a bun. Disappointing, but let's chalk that up to miscommunication. More disappointing was the insane amount of sesame seeds on the bun. Wow. Now when you get a hamburger bun with sesame seeds you can't really taste the sesame seeds , it's more of a garnish. But it’s also because sesame seeds don't have much flavor unless well toasted. The sesame hoagie roll here was well toasted and the sesame seeds had an overpowering flavor. It's all I could taste. It had a lot of meat on it, but bland. Sesame was the predominant flavor. I still taste them an hour later. Now maybe it's Primo's thing, what sets them apart, but I think it's a going to be a tough sell for...
Read moreI know it's been open for a few months, but we've simply not had a hankering for subs until today.
Stopped in and decided to try a couple of small subs for dinner. To conduct a fair test, decided on the Pescara - which is your basic Tuna sub - and the Diablo Turkey - which their menu claims was voted best in Philly!
Well, I am glad I am not in Philadelphia as to me this was just a normal turkey sub with some cayenne pepper thrown on it to make it somewhat spicy. I did not find it unique in any way. The same was true of the Pescara although we did appreciate the fact that they did not drown the tuna in mayonnaise. The bread was just standard white rolls - we were told that you need to order the 9 inch subs to get the seeded rolls.
For sides, we tried their cole slaw. It was on the sweet and creamy side. I liked it. If you like the other styles of cole slaw, you will not enjoy this one.
Overall impression? Not as good as Subway and not as unique as Firehouse Subs. For two 6 inch subs, the cole slaw and one bag of chips, we ended up...
