To say that I was disappointed would be the understatement of the year !
First, let me say that I have lived, worked and eaten in several Mediterranean countries, from Lebanon, Greece, Turkey and the UAE, so I believe I have an informed basis for comparison when it comes to this type of food.
I ordered the Lamb Chop entree, which came with a salad, rice, & pita bread.
A) The salad was good overall, however, it only contained a SINGLE, as in 1, small tomatoe. For a culture where tomatoes are usually featured prominently in salads & most other dishes, this was a sad representation.
B) Then the main dish arrived, containing 3 uber-mini lamb chops that were so small, I thought they had to have been cut from an newly-born baby animal. I would estimate they MIGHT have weighed 1.5 ounces each, part of which was taken up by the bones and a small strip of fat on the one end, hardly enough for an appetizer, let alone a main course. And despite their appetizing char-grilled appearance, they had absolutely ZERO flavor due to a complete lack of any seasoning. The ONLY saving grace was that they were cooked to a medium doneness, as I had requested.
C) The Pita bread, if you can call it that, was so flat, thin, and tasteless that I had to convince myself I was not eating baked cardboard paper.
D) The Tztaziki sauce, if that's what it was supposed to be, was just as sorry as the rest of the meal. It was thin, runny, and contained almost NO garlic or cucumber, which are the 2 main ingredients that determine how good or how lame it is.
Fortunately, the Rice was the one part of this meal that I considered as acceptable, as it was tender, moist and reasonably flavorful. And the lady that waited on me was friendly and welcoming, so I will give credit where credit is due.
Needless to say, I will not go back there anytime soon, as spending $30.00 for a poorly prepared and nearly tasteless LUNCH entree is not my idea of a worthwhile meal choice.
You would be well advised to go to the other Mediterranean place across the street (with better prices), where I have eaten 100's of times and never been...
Read moreThey have now been in this location for thirteen years, so they must be doing something right - regardless of how bad our experience was six years ago - so, we decided to give them another chance ... and we're glad we did! The experience was much better.
The atmosphere has not changed. The food is very tasty and good. In this visit, there were more people eating in than at any of our previous visits, so that was all to the good.
We ordered the sample appetizer plate and the Lamb Kafta with an extra skewer so we can try both the regular and spicy versions of the dish. The appetizer plate featured the mediterenean standards of Falafel, Baba Ganoush, Tabbouleh, Hummus, and pita, but also an american-style salad and a lebanese version of the Greek tzatziki. The American salad was the weakest part of this, although the addition of Sumac on the lettuce was a very nice touch.
Lebanese food is not very spicy, so the "spicy" lamb kafta skewer was not spicy. We paired that with their spicy sauce which was a very flavorful tomato and pepper sauce served on rice. Excellent flavors, but if you are looking for heat levels like in Mexican or Thai cuisines, you will be disappointed.
We were so stuffed at the end of this meal that we took generous portions home of various things and passed on dessert, event though the owner / server urged us to try her home made goodies. Maybe on...
Read moreThe restaurant was not busy when we walked in. Décor was a bit outdated. We came here because of the very high reviews. And we were craving Mediterranean food. The waitress was very kind. But the food was subpar at best. We were the only table in the restaurant. We heard a great deal of microwaving happen in the background. And the food tasted microwaved. We order the meat pie at seven dollars each, when served they said it was freshly baked. Of course this after the fact they had to thaw it out from being frozen. They advertised some kind of black mint tea for $4.00 a glass. I really think it was lipton. The reviews left me a bit bewildered. I expected more. The menu was very confusing, certain dishes you can substitute and dishes you cannot (Lebanese rice). That was not clear. If I wanted microwave food, I would go to my local grocery store for a fraction of the price. Needless to say very disappointing big microwave portion, little meat,...
