Sōshel Bistro — Restaurant in Petersburg

I visited Soshel this past weekend for the holidays. First I want to start of saying, beautiful job on the renovation of this Blandford Landmark👏🏾👏🏾 I loved, loved the patio!! Awesome job! The vibe was cool. The music was on point. Nice and clean.

Now, the staff was friendly and polite!! The waitress came over without a menu and asked would we like to order something to drink. We our ordered drinks. I'm a rum girl so I knew what I wanted already.

When she brought back the drinks she brought back a menu. Now, make sure to pay attention to the menu. I ordered a Rum Punch before seeing the menu. They have 2 different rum punch options on the menu not sure of the difference both taste and look the same but one was $15 and the other was $7! Pay attention!! Had I known, yea $7 it is because like I said, no difference. I wish that would have been said when ordering. Small details to help a customer makes a difference!!!

We then ordered Honey Obay wings fried hard!! Now, when they came to the table they looked great!! I tried a flat it was good! I was like ok, oh but then I tried a drum. No, stop, flag on the play!! I should not bite into my chicken and still taste flour! Not at all, eww. Turned me off at that point. My guess is they fried them hard but too quick. Watch that because the chicken was nice and golden and crispy on the outside but not cooked all the way through out the wing.

Last, but not least! Pay attention to your bill!!!!!!!!!!! An automatic gratuity of 15%-20% added to a bill for 2 people at a bistro is crazy as hell to me!! Watch your bill!!! Give me an option for my tip.

A plus that I absolutely loved is that security walked us to our car and that made us feel safe!! Thank you so much!! They were very nice guys!!👏🏾

So today was the 2nd time we returned to Soshel for Brunch. Today was a big disappointment. I know some may say well why didn’t we leave , we arrived at 125pm we were seated right away and it was a party of 8 of us less than 10. The area we were seated at was not busy at all. 1st warning sign we waited approx 25 min before our drink order was taken. We orders 6 mimosas and 2 non alcoholic beverages. Welllllll almost 45 minutes went by and we were still waiting for our beverages and we had water but the pitchers were empty. Soo after waiting 45 minutes ,our food order still had not been taken. Eventually the order for it was taken , Our server was between us , the opposite side and sometimes no where to be found. Others came in after us and waited less than 30 minutes and received drinks and food, and they were a party of 4. We were at our table for almost 2 hours and still no food and no refill on the water because the alcoholic beverages were sent back due to them being hot, so it’s no telling how long they were sitting at the bar. When we were finally able to express our frustration to the owner it felt as if it was a dismissive response and not really a concern. The food was up and ready not sure if it was ours or not but my concern was with our server who did not appear to be to concerned with how we were feeling . I love to support our own and love a good atmosphere but I can honestly say today was the last time I will be back. If the servers are not sure how to properly maintain without becoming overwhelmed then they need to either be retrained or ask for help . I was extremely disappointed 2.5 hours waisted. So me and friends went on a Saturday recently , the inside looked great, the staff was nice, we got to change our seats with no problem because It wasn’t to many people so the staff was very cool about it. My only complaints was that the DJ only played 90’s R&B even after asking the host for a little song change which they did for a brief moment and then took us back in time again so the music was definitely a 1/10. After that I order a strawberry Hennessy that tasted like pure strawberry champagne and it didn’t even make me feel buzzed so it was pointless to order another drink, and I ordered some food that took forever to come out and when I finally got to try it, it was salty but the Mac was good so 4/10 for the food but I herd their brunch is good.
