The day after my wedding, my husband, best friend, and her boyfriend were looking for something low key to do in the area before dropping them off at Richmond airport. The four of us were practically delirious with exhaustion from the day before and not sure what to expect from this tour that came up when we googled “things to do in Petersburg.” It ended up being really lovely!! The house is beautiful and our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and came across as genuinely interested in the history of the house and its inhabitants. We weren’t very interesting guests, I’m afraid, but very much enjoyed ourselves. Our only complaint is the cursory attention to the enslaved workers on the estate in the antebellum period, although we understand that specific information on that subject is likely extremely scarce. Still, a general history of the experiences of enslaved people in the Petersburg area at the time would have been really interesting.
