Ezell's — Restaurant in Phenix City

This location has mediocre service! I ask for a table for 6 and a baby (we needed a high chair), the woman in the front then looks at me and ask how many people I have.....so I repeated myself and that happened at lot at this location. The waitress was pushy with us ordering when SHE was ready. After we all ordered, 10mins later she brought out coleslaw. I had been to the location in Columbus and the food and service was good, so I knew something wasn’t right at this location. We sat for 15 more mins and I remembered we had hush puppies at the Columbus location, so I asked for them and I was told they were coming out. They came out after we had been sitting for 45mins, with our food. She never checked on us or gave us a time period of when the food would be out. She didn’t even ask if we needed refills, my granny has to stop her and ask. She came by once after the food came out and asked if everything was ok. We didn’t see her again unless she was tending to another table. The waitress and the host/cashier may have been having a bad day but when you’re serving people you have to leave that energy outside. Very disappointed. Although the food was good our lunch was $50! My husband and I got 1 whole catfish & 8 shrimp which was supposed to be the dinner portion. We had to ask about the appetizers because the waitress didn't even mention them to us. We were the first ones in the door followed by about 15 people. We were the very last ones to get our drinks & food. When i asked about the appetizers because i over heard them mention they had fried gator she told us yes you could get that as an appetizer. Never did she mention a price. It came out tasted awesome but was only 10 pieces. When our check came its was $47 & some change the gator was $12! When i tell you we were so disappointed that's an understatement. There wasn't $30 worth of food much less $50. We will not be going back ever. The manager said the dinner portion has 8 pieces of shrimp and a larger piece of catfish. The lunch has 5 pieces of shrimp and a smaller catfish. Our catfish wasn't 5 inches long so i can't see how it could've been smaller a and it's $3 more and there was barely enough catfish on one side to taste no meat on the other side. Waste of money!!! I have been eating Ezzells seafood for over 20 years, first at their Warm Springs location and now at their HWY 280 location. Both locations have always been friendly, great service, and generous portions. That is until the last few times I have ordered take-out. I understand that 2020 has changed many things. No problem, I am willing to pay for great food. I always order the Blackened Catfish. Until the start of this year, 2024, I always received three good sized filets, seasoned and cooked nicely. Always had enough for two meals. I've been patient, but last night was the final straw. The filets so small and unseasoned that I felt cheated. I felt like I received a child sized portion but paid for an adult sized price. I'm not sure if I will order from here again. If I do, it will be a good while before I do. And, by the way, my wife had the Calabash Shrimp. It tasted okay. Not great, like it normally does, just okay. And, the same thing with the portion size, it was very small, like a child size.
