Baru Restaurant — Restaurant in Philadelphia

We came to Baru because we saw the photos of how pretty the atmosphere looked, the string lights and vibrant colors really drew us in. The photos look exactly like the restaurant. So I wasn’t disappointed there. It’s an excellent choice for a photo opportunity.

The disappointment came from despite the restaurant being dead the lack of priority we were to the waitress, we weren’t even served water when we were seated, and when we asked for water we were only given one cup, she forgot about us when given our check. Our food had a hair in it, because the bartender and waitresses all had long hair that was out. The music was okay, it was giving more club music (doing remixes and what not despite it being 3pm)

So imagine our surprise when we were given a bill for two people that included 18% gratuity. The food was okay, but we didn’t think it was worth the amount we spent on it. We didn’t complain to the server, we just paid our bill and left. Would not go back again, I feel as though when gratuity is automatically applied, the service isn’t as good. It was slow, we shouldn’t have been forgotten about as long as we were, they should have let us know it was automatically included, and naturally.. we should have automatically been given water especially when we ordered two...

DO NOT GO!!!!BEWARE DONT GO!! ME AND MY HUSBAND WENT FOR THE 1ST AND LAST TIME IT WAS A SATURDAY (TODAY) WE WANTED TO TRY THIS PLACE LATIN CUISINES. WHEN WE CAME IN AND WAS SEATED AND WE BROWSED THROUGH THE MENU IT LOOKED GOOD SO ME MY HUSBAND ORDERED. WHEN I TELL YALL THE FOOD NEVER CAME..... AGAIN THE FOOD NEVER CAME ....REMIND YOU ITS WAS EMPTY....MAYBE 3 MORE PEOPLE IN THERE AND AGAIN TO REMIND YOU WE CAME IN 1ST BUT THE OTHER "SPANISH" PEOPLE WAS SERVED. SO I ASKED THE SERVER "HEY ITS BEEN A LIL MINUTE IS OUR FOOD COMING?" SHE REPLIED AND SAID "LET ME CHECK ON YOUR FOOD" CAME BACK ABOUT ANOTHER 10 MINUTES LATER AND WALKED RIGHT PASSED OUR TABLE..... DIDNT ACKNOWLEDGE US OR SAID ANYTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING....... SO I TOLD MY HUSBAND HEY LETS JUST GO AND PAY FOR OUR DRINKS WE HAD CAUSE CLEARLY WE'RE NOT GETTING OUR FOOD. WE HAD 2 DRINKS THATS CAME OUT TO 31$ REMIND YOU IT WAS AN 18% GRATUITY ADDED...... EVEN THOUGH ON THE MENU IT SAYS ITS AN AUTOMATIC GRATUITY IF PARTY OF 4 OR MORE OR IF TOTAL BILL IS 50$ OR MORE WHICH IS WAS JUST ME AND MY HUSBAND AND OUR BILL WAS UNDER 50 BUCKS..... SO YEAH BEWARE. MAN I WAS SO MAD CAUSE I WAS HUNGRY AND EXCITED!!!!!! I PROMISE I DONT EVEN DO LONG REVIEWS BUT YEAH NEVER AGAIN!!!!! DONT GO AND I WISH I COULD CONTACT HIGHER...

Went for a last minute birthday with my family and was not disappointed.

Let me break it down:

Food- delicious 😍 not too pricey, and presentation was beautiful

Drinks- happy hour is the golden time to go. Variety in drinks.

Atmosphere- very modern, clean, bathrooms are beautiful, music was hitting all different types of moods.

Service- now this is where they hit it off the park… Arol fue espectacular!! He was so accommodating, pleasant and you can tell he enjoys providing good service. Now a days it’s so hard going somewhere and the server just brings food and then check. Arol consistently checked if we needed drinks, removed plates from table, cleaned table, suggested what to get, and he did it smiling and being super friendly. The bartender was also a sweetheart.

I will definitely be back for food but because of the service I was blown away.
