I am in my late 20s and I have been coming eating at brunos since I was 5 years old. We used to live across the street from there and this place was my happy place! When i got older it was one of the few places my parents let me walk to alone, telling me to be careful crossing the street... I looked forward to every Friday, walking across the street and coming to this place For the most part I have been consistently happy. Like 8 months or so ago I was tragically disappointed when I ate their cheesesteak and it was BLAH then i had their cheese fries and it was BLAH a few days after, relatives had the same experience. I cheated on the with Delassandros, and Max's for a while because I was so devastated. (and so was my family) but one day someone in my family was brave enough to revisit and WALAHHH it was back! I finally went back and had the food that made me happy and reminded me of that childhood joy. I have watched many changes-changes in people, changes in PRICES (WOOOSAHHH), changes in payment (oh yall take CARDS NOW?!), changes in greeting, changes in the sigh out front, changes in rolls (yall got rolls with more bread so maybe a tad more meat), different people answering the phone being all hey how is your day going maam (okay brunos!), even had a black girl there at one point (only other female i havd even seen there other than the Asian woman but she isnt like a consistent worker-those who come here know who Im talking about)... ANYWHO. this place is home. And over two decades later I still go there and order the same exact thing, a mushroom chicken cheesesteak with black pepper and cheese fries and IT DONT MISS SIS! Chick cheesesteak will run ta about 7.50, 50 extra for toppings...not too shabby at all. Love this place forreal. I always find street parking and I always smile when I walk through the door because this is HOME forreal yall. =)
Update: I’ve been going to this place for over 25 years! I’ve witnessed a ton of different people and variations of people. Honestly, other than this one Asian woman who used to pop in women didn’t start working there until like 2-3 years ago fr lol. But! I was ALMOST DONE with Bruno’s about a year or so ago because for about a year they would have thee skimpiest cheesesteaks! It made noooo sense! But they have returned to making them the way they should. My fave is a chicken cheesesteak with cheese fries. Cannot go wrong! It’s flavorful and honestly I’m obsessed. Even started a rewards program which they haven’t always had because I woulda had a million points. But I’m glad that they have been making their food better because it was gonna be so sad to chalk them. Bruno’s please do not go back to be...
Read moreMy wife is a NY transplant and we have been on the search for a place that can deliver the consistency and taste of an authentic NY slice. This is honestly the closest to a NY slice we could find.
The pizzas are made fresh to order and have the right cheese to sauce ratio on each slice. We each started with a slice each and they came out fast and pipping hot, just the way it should be. After the first bite we both looked at each other and gave the nod of approval. Other pizza places in Philly and the suburbs often over cheese the pizza and when you go to bite it, the entire cheese falls off with the bite. Not at Brunos! The other thing to mention is that the pizza sauce is what a good pizza sauce should be; robust, sweet and have a hint of herbs/spices. Overall the pizza has the perfect balance of cheese, sauce and the crust is crispy and chewy - the closest thing to pizza perfection.
We then tried their cheesesteak with american cheese with onions. They use fresh rolls that are soft but remarkably absorb and hold all the meat and cheese together for a great tasting cheesesteak. The difference with Bruno's cheesesteak is that they season their cheesesteak meat and the flavor profile is more complex than getting a run of the mill cheesesteak from other pizzerias where it just tastes like dry meat and cheese. The taste of the meat combined with the onions and cheese all mixed up in that soft roll makes this one of the best cheesesteaks I have ever had in Philadelphia and I've been to Steve's Prince of Steaks, Genos, Pats, Jim's on South St. and Dalessandro's Steaks. If you have tried all those other places, you need to get a cheesesteak from Bruno's and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Lastly, we ended our meal with some chicken wings. They are breaded and fried like how us Philadelphians have grown up eating from the local seafood and pizzerias. The chicken wings were cooked perfectly and after the first bite into that crispy breaded chicken wing I was hooked. I read some other reviews about the chicken being undercooked and based upon that guy's review I would have to disagree. It's possible for properly cooked chicken to appear red, or even bleed, at the thigh bone. ... This is because pigments in the bone marrow seep through the thin bones of these juvenile birds, tinting the meat with a heat-stable pigment.
Anyways, I recommend that you eat a slice there while you wait for your pie to get ready. If you're in the area, this is the place to go to!
Pro Tip: Reheat your pizza on the stove to bring back that fresh from the oven taste and texture. Don't microwave your leftover pizza, don't...
Read moreSo the food at Bruno's is stellar in my opinion. really terrific cheesesteaks, in fact the best I’ve had in this area so far for a pizza place and I’ve tried about half a dozen since moving here. the pizza is very good, I love their thin crust, and the toppings are fresh and flavorful. the sides like fries and mozzarella sticks are good, and overall everything is priced well. the quality is what keeps me coming back but one thing that I think needs some amending is the delivery aspect. I routinely wait about an hour and a half or even more for delivery. the quoted time for my location (which is less than two miles away) is usually around 45-55 minutes but in reality it's about twice as long from order to in my hands. and in the most recent instance of ordering delivery, the driver called me down to the lobby to receive the order and proceeded to wait in his car texting for several minutes before getting out and grabbing the food. I understand with covid it may be hard getting drivers but I hope Bruno's hires a few more runners to improve on the delivery times soon.
-Update: Placed an order online at 6:15 on Aug 4, waited two hours, never received it or any further communication other than the receipt (lol), ordered from somewhere else instead. order at...
