I recently had the pleasure of dining at Byrnes, and I must say, their buffalo wings are some of the best I’ve ever had. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a great mix of casual comfort and lively energy. It felt like the kind of place where you could unwind after a long day, catch up with friends, or just enjoy a good meal.
Now, let’s talk about the star of the show: the buffalo wings. As a huge fan of wings, I’ve tried my fair share from different places, but these truly stood out. First, the presentation was on point. The wings arrived piping hot, perfectly coated in a vibrant, rich buffalo sauce that was just the right balance of tangy and spicy. You could tell immediately that a lot of care went into making sure every wing was generously covered in sauce, without being too messy.
The texture was spot on as well. Each wing had a crispy exterior that gave way to tender, juicy meat inside. It’s a rare thing to find wings that stay crisp even after being drenched in sauce, but these held up perfectly. I could hear the satisfying crunch with each bite, followed by the rich burst of flavor from the buffalo sauce. The heat level was ideal—enough to give you that classic buffalo wing kick but not so overwhelming that you couldn’t appreciate the flavor.
What I really appreciated was the attention to detail. The wings were served with a side of cooling, creamy ranch dressing (you can also opt for blue cheese), which paired perfectly with the spiciness of the sauce. The celery and carrot sticks on the side were fresh and crisp, adding a nice balance to the dish.
The portion size was generous, too. Whether you’re grabbing a small order as a snack or indulging in a larger platter, you’re sure to be satisfied. I went with the medium portion, which gave me plenty to enjoy and even take home for later.
Service-wise, the staff was attentive and friendly, always checking in to make sure everything was to my liking. They clearly knew what they were doing when it came to recommending menu items, and they had a genuine enthusiasm for the food they served, which made the experience even better.
Overall, Byrnes has definitely earned a spot on my list of favorite wing spots. If you’re a buffalo wing lover like me, this place is a must-visit. The wings are flavorful, the ambiance is perfect for a laid-back meal, and the service is top-notch. I’ll definitely be coming back, and next time, I’m bringing friends so they can experience these wings...
Read moreI’ve been to Byrne’s countless times over 3 decades. Their wings are on the small side as wings go but are unique and when prepared well are some of the best wings I’ve had. It’s why I keep going back. The potato logs (pressured fried potato wedges served with sour cream and a spicy cheese whiz) are also different and probably an acquired taste that I also enjoy. The place is an old-time, local Philly bar / restaurant (It’s on the dive side of the bar & restaurant spectrum) Don’t be surprised if you / your party are seated in an adjacent table right next to another group of diners. It can get tight in there. The waitresses are part of the experience and several have been there as long as I’ve been going (-30 years). However, at my last few visits the wings and the potato logs have been undercooked. I realize it’s all pressure fried but the logs haven’t been as crispy and the wings (for a lack of a better term) are more slimy / rubbbery than usual. This has happened on occasion over the past 30 years or so I’ve been going but last few times it’s been more consistent. Lastly, the wings aren’t inexpensive. 25 wings with blue cheese and celery is $31.35 before taxes and tip which I feel is on the high side for smaller wings. The potato logs are a good value at $5.75. Lastly, the crabs are good. Served cleaned with Old bay / Chesapeake bay seasoning but are crazy expensive for their size. I rated food only 2 stars due to the poor preparation over the past few visits...
