I came here for the pernil and mofongo - my coworker recommended and she said it's was legit. Even though I'm not of the culture and never had it before, so there's no comparison to be made, I can tell you what it tastes pretty good. Pernil was juicy and tender without being watery. The skin wasn't crispy though, and I thought it was supposed to be. But the fat rendered perfectly and the skin gelatinized a bit so it melted in my mouth. So it was just good, I'm just not sure about authentic. The chicken empanada was great though! Skin was crisp, chicken pulled apart and tender, not dry AF like other places be having it and it was perfectly seasoned. Could use green sauce for a kick but still great without. I ordered water cause that's what I wanted to drink, what I didn't know was they give you bottled water. If they charge for it, I'd have rather gotten something else, but unfortunately I'm not sure as my boyfriend threw the receipt away - but I wouldn't be surprised if they did charge. Happened to me recently at a Turkish place as well, it's a cultural thing. Tap water quality in some countries aren't the best, so it's custom to serve bottled water to ensure quality and everything that comes in a bottle is not free. Lastly, service was basic - the way I like it. You order at the table, eat at the table, ask if you need something, and pay at the register. I don't expect 5 star service hand and foot service from a place like this, not saying their service wasn't good, but it was basic and I like that, you don't get bothered 5 billion times. People have mentioned they're rude, I just think it's different cultural expectations. Would come again to try different things and if I...

Casa del Mofongo 2 used to be one of my favorite spots in NE Philly. However, I decided to eat there yesterday after not going for several months and things have really made a turn for the worse. First, we got the wrong soup (shrimp when we ordered fish). Instead of proactively taking the soup back and bringing us what we actually ordered, the server at first tried to make it seem like it was our fault and that we had ordered shrimp in the first place. However, because we were hungry and the soup had been good in the past no matter the main ingredient, we decided to just keep it. Well, turns out the soup has changed and tasted sour and not as flavorful as I remembered. The mofongo w/ mariscos was also so salty that it was difficult to finish. Quality of food has gone downhill for sure. And to make things even worse, for that service, THEY CHARGED AN AUTOMATIC 15% GRATUITY on our bill (and we were only a party of 2 people). I think ownership has changed because I did not recognize any of the staff there. This is no longer the same restaurant I once enjoyed and I will never be coming back.
I hope the few dollars you got from us was worth it. Because I think you will be missing out on way more from the potential customers lost because of...
Read morePlace is cute, however the owner needs a class on customer service. She was extremely rude!!! I placed and order and the order was repeated based on what i ordered and I said yes. When I got home some of the order was missing. I called them immediately and they said they apologized and would deliver the food to me. After a long wait (like an hour) she finally arrives and tries to bill for the order. Mind you it was their mistake but when I said I no longer wanted the order she became upset, snatched the bag and walked away with an attitude. I immediately called the restaurant to complain. I even left a nice tip and I didn't even dine in. I will NEVER go there again nor will I ever recommend this place to family / friends. Stay away from there!!! The only thing that was great was the young waitress who was...
