Tay’s Soul Food — Restaurant in Philadelphia

The owner Gave my daughter salty watery food, I drove up there to talk to owner about it because I could not reach her by phone and neither could my daughter. She told me that my daughter can get her money back if she brought the food back. Today (less than 24 hours later) my daughter was able to bring the food back (barely eaten) and this owner told my daughter that she don’t do refunds and gave her $10 back out of a $23 total meal claiming that my daughter ate out of it, ….my issue is that my daughter had to taste it…..How else would she know that the food was nasty and salty. I will never ever purchase anything else from this place again…. Had I known this personal was that unprofessional I would have told my daughter not to purchase that cornbread (but of course my daughter waited until we were far from this place to tell me what had happened because she wasn’t sure about how I would react, loll. I would have went and handled this situation myself. It’s really sad because I trusted this owner at her word and she took advantage of a 16 year old. I told my daughter she should not have bought cornbread from this women after only get a portion of her back for that nasty food, but my daughter is young and has to learn that you don’t patronize people who don’t respect your dollar or patronage. I did encourage her to write a review though. And I wrote a review our experience . Two trips to a place nowhere near where I live and my daughter only refunded party of her money…. My family and I have been eating from Tay’s for the past year or so, more often recently. The food itself is usually 8-9/10 imo. However, the last time I got a plate, and they were running 2/$27 deals, the macaroni must’ve been made by someone else or with a different recipe /ingredients or something because it was salty and almost sour. No real cheese blend or seasoned flavor. But as I said, it’s typically good. They do give you a nice amount of food there. However, the last 3 times I’ve went, my order was incorrect. They have a habit of saying advertising certain sides or meats, but then it’s not available when you show up. It may be due to low stock, selling out, limited cooks etc., but that’s not the issue of the customer. They do a very bad job of communicating that in there, and will just replace your side /meat with something else that’s available, instead of telling you they didn’t have it to order in the first place. And for the loveeee of God, do NOT go to this place if you’re in a tight space for time! It doesn’t matter if you order an hour ahead of time, you will have to wait when you get there. Once, I had to wait about 15-20 minutes. The last time I went, I actually had to wait about 40 minutes AFTER I had called and placed my order an hour before I left (so that I wouldn’t have to wait, as I was ubering to the restaurant). I was very agitated and annoyed. So overall, the food is usually tasty and fulfilling, but the service (wait time, professionalism, communication, etc.) is very lack luster and needs a lot of work. Negative 5 stars. Customer service is horrible, this was my first and last time trying this place. Ordered. Called back for total she said 31$. When i say I'm here to pick up xynz. A young girl at register says it took you long enough🤔 it's 42$ (ookay) I only brought 31$ which is what I was told over phone. Then she says o no it's 37$. Y was I told 31$. I paid the 37$ she says my pasta not done, that when u take too long we give your food away. So we have words because I was confused on the smart remarks when my food not even ready. 2 more people behind the counter chime in saying it's not that serious I not to calm down, then another older lady comes over n asked what happen. She apologizes for her staff behavior. Waited another 10min for food. Pasta was wrong. Trys to take it back because that was someone else n make me wait to fix mines, i had order food at this point 45 minutes ago, which they said would be done in 25. so no took wrong pasta.
