I was looking for roast crispy duck. I didn't want to go to Chinatown because its gotten rundown, yucky traffic, expensive parking and horrible SEPTA. I decided to stay in my neighborhood so I could walk. I worried about it being expensive. Chestnut Hill is high end and the restaurant looked pricey. What a WONDERFUL SURPRISE! I was a solo table but still treated like a queen with lots of servers checking in, giving water and smiling. The roast duck in black bean sauce on the cast iron plate was SCRUMPTIOUS. It comes with a healthy side of white rice and delicate, flavorful bok choi. The skin was crispy yet NOT oily or greasy. The CHUNKS of tender duck meat were excellent. The sauce was thick, savory and yummy. FOODGASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The portion was so healthy that I was able to take a container home for lunch the next day. Then I ordered the Mudslide ice cream pie for dessert. PERFECTION. Dense, creamy, sweet but not cloying with nut accents, fresh strawberries and cream as garnish. Cool treat on a humid Summer night. When the bill came, I was shocked that it was less than $40. I did not order a cocktail because I wanted to concentrate on the food. I gave them a big tip and said I am absolutely returning. I am also addicted to their spring rolls too. Two perfect crunchy flaky rolls filled with a balanced combination of shrimp, cheese, and cabbage that you can dip in duck sauce or mustard or just...
Read moreGreat Chinese restaurant that makes unique dishes. I came here twice now and have really liked some foods and not others. The restaurant has a small parking lot that gets filled up during busy hours. But there is street parking around. This place seems to be very popular for take out, and their serving sizes for take out are huge.
Crispy Spring Rolls (8/10): Decent Spring rolls. Nothing special
Spicy Rice Vermicelli Singapore Style (6/10): I wasn’t the biggest fan of these. I got them a little late though so they were a bit cold. I just found the dish to be bland
General Tso’s Chicken (7/10): Hm, different take on General Tso’s as it was different. It tasted a bit healthier, maybe. I think it was decent, but not something I’d get again. The portion was huge.
Chicken wings with Angry Sauce (9/10): Delicious. The wings are very crispy and the sauce was a sweeter tasting sauce. It said it was supposed to be spicy, but I didn’t taste spice. I liked it a lot though.
Szechuan Sesame Chicken (10/10): I liked this a lot as it was a different mix on sesame chicken. And it definitely tasted healthier. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The sauce was a peanut butter sauce, but it matched the dish very well. I liked the dish a lot and would get it again.
Overall, good restaurant. Nice location and great place to get some take out. I would definitely try this restaurant out and would...
Read moreI'm new to Chestnut Hill and I pass by this place daily so we finally gave it a try. I'm told they've been in the same spot for decades and told they serve a French-Asian fusion cuisine. I wouldn't know what that means, but gave it a go anyway. I was in the mood for fish. Whole fish, if it was available, and very nearly ordered their sea bass but I caught a glimpse of Soft Shell crab on their Covid-limited menu. Oh, my. Somebody in that kitchen knows how to buy the "top prime filet" of soft shell crab.. The serving was huge and the subtly sweet sauce was a delight. I opted for a side of shrimp fried rice over the plain brown rice and that was a good move. Back to the crabs - I expected at any moment to bite into a morsel of briny, "fishy" flavor so typical of this dish and there was none to be found. The care and attention to the food and the cleanliness of this pretty little place is sure to bring me back and highly recommend to others. Our bartender, Jeri(sp?), was super informative and entertaining and found some of the regular customers who approached the bar to be fun and...
