Was looking for good JPN food in the area and decided on Hokka Hokka. Knew the place was popular but needed somewhere nice for a birthday. We. Were. Satisfied! The Atmosphere: The restaurant has great ambience, traditional table seating and a bar. We came around 5 so we were only 1 of 4ish groups as the restaurant opens at 4.30. You'd think this would be a downside but having what felt to be a large space to ourselves was very nice. The Service: The service was nice. Shoutout to Siegfried, our server for the evening. Very patient guy with a great attitude and good recommendation for my indecisive party. Everything was brought out in a timely manner, appetizers coming out in around 5 minutes with entrees 7-8. The Food: The food easily, the best I've had in a minute. First Japanese place I've been too in a minute that doesn't sell fried rice and prioritizes other traditional Japanese cuisine. Everything under the entree section aims to fill you and it does it right. I'd recommend the Gyudon as that packed meat and rice dish had me ready to pass out when I done. I'd also recommend the drunken scallops. My group was so addicted to it they tried asking for the sauce to-go and ended up ordering another order to bring with them. Summary: Great food, more items then your usual sushi shop. Great drinks, friendly staff. Price can be intimidating but it is definitely worth it for a solo trip or special occasion. 10/10...
Read moreA family member and I decided to try this restaurant for a birthday celebration. It was a Saturday evening dinner. I was asked for a Vax card upon arrival and presented accordingly. I thought the host was going to ask for a magnifying glass next. She examined the card for several minutes then asked for ID. For context, I'm a 62 yo retired person. There were very few people there at the time I arrived. I don't know if she went through this process with everyone but I seriously doubt it. I was finally allowed to be seated but I have to say that was a huge turn off.
My family member was already there. We were quickly served drinks. I enjoyed the best pomegranate martini and ordered shortly after. The server was outstanding, as he made great suggestions and checked in often. I had miso, a delightful crab salad app, and veggie tempura. My cousin ordered a scallop app and two different styles of sushi.
Overall the food was presented beautifully, made for an exciting and memorable feast. I had never tried tempura and will definitely return for more. The prices are fair. The atmosphere was very quiet and cozy. Next time I will skip the front door routine and just...
Read moreI got takeout and spent over $90 worth of food here and only a quarter of it was edible. The only thing good here is the sushi as the sushi is pretty fresh. All of the cooked foods were all overcooked, burnt and had no flavor. The food here is very overpriced for what you get. You can get better food elsewhere for less.
Avocado tempura app - Too mushy and had no flavor. Could not eat it. I love avocado I salads and sushi, but fried it tastes completely different.
Grilled scallops app - 3 scallops, all overcooked, and two of them had a little sand in them. Disgusting.
Shrimp tempura dinner - 4 small pieces of shrimp and 4 pieces of sweet potato. The tempura was not crunchy and it was soggy. The portion was small and not worth it.
Filet mignon teriyaki dinner - I asked for medium and my steak was burnt on the outside and overcooked in the middle. (see photo). I can't believe I paid $22 for this and can barely eat it. Small portion as well.
Smoked salmon sushi - fresh
California roll - tasted good to me and fresh. Who can screw that up?
I would NOT recommend this place whatsoever, unless you're coming here just...
