Their food is really good! I am picky about Jamaican food and have been trying to find a new place since my old favorite closed last year. I'm glad to finally have gotten around to trying Mr. Jerk and I wish I would have done it sooner.

I ordered the curry chicken, jerk chicken, yams, and mac and cheese, and was really happy with everything.

The curry chicken was well-seasoned and the jerk chicken had the perfect amount of spice. The meat on both was tender and moist, cooked perfectly, with flavor all the way down to the bone. Rice and peas and cabbage were seasoned in their own right, not bland, and the texture was just right, not too soft or too hard. Mac and cheese was tasty, pretty textbook macaroni pie. But the secret ingredient to the plate had to be the yams lol. By themselves, they were just this side of too sweet for me, but when I mixed them with the other savory dishes, that hit of sweetness just amplified the whole plate and brought it together. Especially with the jerk chicken, because it had the heat to play against. And I also really liked it with the macaroni pie. Those yams have been living rent free in my head lol. I'll just be eating something and I'm like dang, you know what would really set this off? Mr. Jerk's yams lmao. I got everything in large and was happy with the portions and the pricing. I ordered through UberEats, and my order was completed perfectly, including the notes I left. I really appreciated the attention to detail and service provided, because those things make a big difference.

Oh I almost forgot! I tried the cake too, the pound cake. Yall gotta get you some of that, it was good as hell. Very dense, but not heavy and not too sweet. I could have done with a bit of lemon to it, but it was a really good cake. Very satisfying end to the meal.

Overall, I had a really positive experience with Mr. Jerk and will definitely keep them as my go-to spot when I'm feeling for Jamaican.

Give them a try, I'm sure you won't be...

This place was a 10/10!! I ordered on the run, a quick lunch platter. Called in an order for a medium jerk chicken, mac and cheese, and yams. My food was ready in about 15 minutes, which was exactly what I was hoping for. The store was pretty small, but it was clean and welcoming! The guy behind the counter was nice, and he was quick with grabbing my order. They do accept credit cards. The platter was surprisingly heavy!! For $13, I was already happy with what I got! I had to stop at a few places before making it home to eat, so when I did get home, I had to reheat the food. I have to say, EVERYTHING WAS still DELICIOUS!! The chicken was flavored perfectly! It was so spicy that sweat was dripping down my back, and that's how I like my jerk chicken! Mac was cheesy and flavorful! And the YAMS! OMG, THE YAMS! I got full after eating about half the platter, but it was so good that I couldn't stop eating. However, I couldn't finish it all, so I saved some for my husband to try! We both have decided that when we go to PA, this will be the new spot for Jamaican food!

I returned from my first trip to Jamaica and I have been on a quest to find something close in Philly!

This was as close as I've found so far!

I ordered a medium Jerk Chicken platter with sweet potatoes, collard greens, and a side of Mac n cheese, $18 with my debit card (there's a slight surcharge for using a card, which I don't mind personally).

First, I LOVE that you can order the sides you want and not get a dish full of rice, like at some spots.

The chicken was moist and covered in jerk sauce. (I didn't even need the extra sauce I ordered)! It had a nice amount of spice and good flavor. However, it missed the tang in the sauce that I found while in Jamaica. Don't get me wrong, it was GOOD, but there's a certain flavor that seems to ONLY exist in roadside jerk huts on the island itself.☺️

That being said, I would definitely consider this my top contender so far! The sides were delicious! They felt more like Southern sides than distinctively Jamaican, but they were yummy. I should have gotten curry gravy on my Mac n cheese.😋

The quest...

This particular day, my son wanted to try out this restaurant in South Philly and asked if I would like to come along. So, we get there and my first impression was everything was CLEAN. From the stove, to the counter, and all the way back to the prep area. As customers started to pour in, I asked questions about the restaurant. I was told its been in existence about four months and it stays "booked and busy."The atmosphere was very chill and the portions, Chilllle. Let's have a convo about the portions shall we? Ok, I had ordered the oxtail, cabbage and mac and cheese. My platter was crazy heavy, the food was tasteful and plentiful. I didn't get cook's name but he's very pleasant. Mr. Rich (the owner's real name), you really out did yourself and I hope you stay prosperous.
