Disgusting Experience at Paris Baguette on Chestnut Street: A Disregard for Sanitary Standards and Ethics
I recently visited the Paris Baguette location on Chestnut Street, and I must say that my experience was nothing short of appalling. As soon as I walked in around 5 pm, it became evident that many of the items on display were stale and far from fresh. However, what shocked me even more was the complete lack of sanitary standards and ethical practices I witnessed during my visit.
Firstly, it was alarming to witness the staff nonchalantly putting back rejected pastries onto the shelves. Despite my clear objection and concern that the items had been touched and handled, they seemed unfazed and determined to disregard any semblance of hygiene. It is absolutely unacceptable for a food establishment to have such a blatant disregard for the well-being of its customers. Items that are clearly stale should be removed..
The fact that the staff members were willing to ignore my explicit instructions to not put the touched pastries back on the shelf is not only concerning but also raises serious questions about their professionalism and the overall management of the establishment. It is the duty of any reputable food establishment to prioritize the health and safety of its customers, which includes adhering to basic sanitary practices.
Furthermore, the lack of sanitary standards in the Paris Baguette on Chestnut Street is highly distressing. Customers should feel confident in the cleanliness and quality of the food they are purchasing. Unfortunately, this particular location failed to meet even the most basic expectations in this regard. The presence of stale and inedible items, combined with the staff's cavalier attitude towards food safety, creates an environment that is both unappetizing and potentially hazardous.
Based on my experience, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this Paris Baguette location to anyone. The disregard for sanitary standards and ethical practices is simply unacceptable. Customers deserve better treatment, and they should be able to trust that the food they purchase is fresh, safe, and prepared with care. I strongly urge the management of this establishment to address these issues immediately and take the necessary steps to improve their hygiene practices and staff training.
In conclusion, my visit to Paris Baguette on Chestnut Street was a disturbing and unsettling experience. The stale items, the staff's negligence in handling food, and the overall lack of sanitary standards all contribute to a completely unacceptable situation. Until significant improvements are made, I urge potential customers to seek out alternative establishments that prioritize cleanliness, quality, and...
Read moreI cannot recommend this París Baguette location more highly - not just because they’re a nice cafe to have a cup of coffee and a pastry in, but because my wife and I had them provide a cake for our wedding that got rave reviews from all of our guests.
A few years ago during the early stages of the pandemic, my wife (then girlfriend) and I picked up a blueberry yogurt cake to have on a weekend getaway. She’s a baked good snob and was skeptical of a cake from a chain bakery, but was BLOWN AWAY by that cake - so naturally, we devoured the whole thing over that weekend. We’ve raved about it to friends and family and stopped in for slices of it a bunch.
When we were thinking about what we wanted to do for our wedding cake, we looked at Paris Baguette as an affordable option. Unfortunately, we saw that their celebration sheet cake didn’t come in the Blueberry Yogurt flavor. But then we thought what the harm was in asking if they could do a custom cake - and Diana at the University City location was willing to help us out. We ordered two Celebration Sheet Cakes that she and her team customized with the blueberry yogurt icing for us. We also ordered a smaller Blueberry Yogurt cake for our cake slicing pictures.
On the morning of the pickup, I was freaking out (pre-wedding jitters and all) and showed up 30 minutes early for pickup. The team at this location was so sweet and patient with me. They even offered me a drink on the house and a staff member helped me load up the cake into my car.
At the wedding, a family friend who doesn’t eat any sweets had TWO SLICES (compliment of the highest degree). Everybody loved the cakes, people were asking where we got them, and we were so happy with our decision to go to...
Read moreWas very excited when this place opened up. One of the great joys of city life is good bakeries, and this place is close by. Unfortunately, Paris Baguette has been disappointing. It's maybe a little hard to diagnose what exactly the problem is here, but maybe the contribution of a lot of little things. One thing is the French - Asian fusion. I am a BIG fan of classic French and Asian pastries, but somehow the mix falls flat. There are much tastier options in Philly's Chinatown bakeries, and the French inspired items fall vastly short of what you can get at even relatively widespread chains in Europe, such as Pauls. Secondly, I'm never quite sure how fresh everything here is. Even early in the morning (presumably everything should be fresh?) I've encountered items with unexpected consistencies and textures. Perhaps the slick commercial photography oversells the actual product - it's disappointing to see a croissant filled with smooth flowing liquid chocolate filling, and then receive a lumpy product in real life. Lastly, I'd love it if there were more savory options here. When this spot opened, I was dazzled by the seeming variety, and hoped this would become my regular breakfast spot on weekends. I've tried a lot of their pastries at this point and most leave me with a sugar crash, not a great...
