I'm so disappointed to write this poor review because I wanted to enjoy it. Walked in to a dimly lit place which is not an instant deal breaker. Asked for a menu and was told to look online okay sure... Asked a couple of questions about the platter and the young lady didn't know. She asked another young lady who rudely answered. Ok still not a huge problem. Went back online and the rude young lady said that the online menu shows things not available. So I asked well how should we order if the menus was wrong??? So we ordered Cassava w/rice, peanut soup, and seafood.
While we waited we witnessed 3 customers come that ordered online whose orders were either not processed or started. The young ladies did the best they could but all three left with nothing.
I wanted to eat in so I was okay the food is going to be good! Let me wash my hands... No public bathroom??? How in world am I going to eat food meant to be eaten with my hands without washing them? So I took our food home.
At least the food would be good. Nope
Everything was oily, the rice was trash, and the soup was way too peppery. This has been the 1st time I ever encouraged my family to throw their food out. I ate half of mine. It got better with the fufu but not good enough to eat again.
This cooks seems like a family that cooks well for their family. You know what I'm saying but it's not for a customer that is unfamiliar with the cuisine. I wish I didn't come here. The customer service and no bathroom is a problem. I hope they fix the lighting and get the young ladies support. I want this restaurant to...
Read moreHorrible unfriendly people working there!!! My child wanted to use restroom badly. I went there to ask if she could use their restroom...while had on my mind ordering some food to go. I have been to Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Liberia, South Africa thousands of times due to my work, so I was very excited to see the restaurant with such name in Philadelphia and was gonna tell my friends about it. I always loved to visit African countries and loved their food. Come to find out..the gentlemen behind the bar who spoke with heavy Ghanaian or Nigerian accent.which made me feel even warmer towards him..cuz Ghana is like a second home to me...told me that the bathroom was not for public use. After I looked at him surprised he changed it to " it is out of order"... Then he told me to go outside and ask the lady who was fixing the front of the place if my daughter can use the restroom( guess she was his boss). I complied and asked her..but her response was even more abrupt. She didn't allow my child to use the restroom..more over...she raised her voice at me when I expressed my perplexity regarding this situation. She even waived her hands at me as to I should walk away! Whatever angle you'd look from....customer service, human factor, kindness, friendliness, compassion...Never thought I could possibly be treated like that by my African fellows.. P.S. The Jamaican restaurant across the street...had no problems to let my daughter use the restroom. Personnel there was...
Read moreI have been looking for authentic African food in the area, and stumbled upon this restaurant. What I was really looking for was a restaurant with fufu (always wanted to try). I tried to look at the menu ahead of time, but decided to ask when I got there. The restaurant itself looks dingy a bit, but I try to never judge based on that because I have had excellent food before from restaurants just the same.
The woman was pretty nice to us. We asked to see a menu, she said look it up online. I asked her about what soup to get with fufu, and she recommended pepper soup. She stated most things were very spicy, but this was the spiciest. We also tried to order fufu and some sides, but she would not let us order only fufu without soup (it is on their menu that you can). So, we did not fight for it.
Food wise, the food was okay. Not great, not terrible. The pepper soup was nothing but pepper and oil. No other real flavor, so although spicy… was bland. Also, pepper soup describes that it is spicy pepper flavoring not what is in the soup dish (shrimp, fish, etc) if you would like to order it. I couldn’t finish the food due to how oily and the taste was nothing but pepper.
Not what I was looking for, but it definitely was an experience. There is potential to try other things on the menu, but I personally would like to try somewhere else. Pricing wise, ordering online was much more expensive than ordering in person. Expect to pay $15 and up at...
