The Bottle Shop — Restaurant in Philadelphia

Typically only have had positive experiences. However, on this particular occasion I was meeting my wife here for a drink. She arrived before me and evidentially her tap on her credit card wasn't working when she tried to pay for her drink (we've had this issue frequently with cards issued by our bank). Woman behind the counter kept her card, so when I arrived I paid for her $3.50 drink and my own. I asked for my wife's card back and the woman behind the counter literally held the card in front of my face until she saw my card was approved to pay for the transaction. I've been here many times before, given this place a lot of business and I thought this was incredibly demeaning and not very nice. Don't think I'll be back. Hope it was...

I thoroughly enjoy this place. I've been a loyal customer with The Bottle Shop since 2013 (when they were further south on Passyunk Ave) and I really can't recommend this place enough.

The attention to detail with the various beers they have in-stock is incredible. The staff are very laid back and informative; they are not condescending when you're unsure of certain beers or wines, they truly just want to help you get what your palette will enjoy. The back room is also comfortable and inviting for customers to eat their take out food and drinks they've purchased at the shop with movies and shows playing in the background.

Bummed that I’m even writing a review, but this experience was just awful. They let me shop around for 10 minutes. I get to the register to discover that I’ve forgotten my i.d. I show him that I have a federally issued medical marijuana license for the state of Pa and a picture of my state I.d. In the state of pa, you must be 21 years old in order to even be eligible for a medical marijuana license. The cashier told me he needed my physical i.d. to buy beer. I am 28 years old and have gone to bottle shop for almost 6 years now. Never had an issue like this, but happy to say I won’t ever have an issue like this again because I am more than ok not giving them any more of my money. Thanks...
