Ordered yesterday (10/17/18).. Ordered a regular pizza with extra cheese. (I've ordered every single Thursday for me and my wife/kids before the place burned down a few months back. Sometimes I'd order 2 so I had lunch for work the following day). Was delivered at the expected time yesterday, because in my head I knew they always say "we'll be there soon". And they were NOT here soon. (expected). Anyways.. pizza was delivered and I was kinda nervous because this was the first time ive ordered again since the fire and I wasn't sure if it was 'business as usual' once they started back up again. My pizza was burnt... Felt about a pound (1lb) lighter... And it tastes NOTHING like the original Pizza Shack. In fact.... It tasted EXACTLY like City Pizza's pizza. But just more expensive. It's official, Philly..... All the great pizza places are all gone. They all sold to people who all buy from the same cheapest distributors. They all taste the same. Guess Im back to making my own pizza. NONE of them have their own personal recipes... All their ingredients come from bags and cans...and they charge u an arm and a leg. I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER order from them again. If I want City Pizza, I'll just order from them. I wont help someone who just baught a name and help pay for their renovations while they sell me cheap product at a higher price.. But like I said, I'll just make my own at home again. (Note: I use to be a sous chef and I also use to work at a pizza shop. Hope this super long review helps people. STOP BEING RIPPED OFF for your pizza. It's the simplest thing to make (and the...
Read moreWell, I've lost my pizza place. After waiting four months for the Shack to return, they have come back with less than stellar results. First off, the place looks great, but since I'm not eating there or looking for presentation, it really doesn't make a difference to me. I was there for a pizza, and a lot has changed there, too. A large pie now costs $13.00 ($14.04 with tax). That's $2.01 more than it cost when they closed on April 22. That's an increase of 18%. EIGHTEEN PERCENT. With that kind of price hike, I was hoping to be blown away by improvements to the food in keeping with the new and improved image. Sadly, that wasn't the case. I've been a customer of this place for five years buying pizza usually twice a month or more, so I feel pretty confident that I know what the pizza was like before things changed. The pizza doesn't fill the box like it used to, and, after tasting it, it seems that the recipe has changed, too. It's actually not nearly as flavorful and is very close to not having flavor at all. Maybe the new owner uses a different food supplier or maybe uses fewer spices, because they're too expensive. Either way, it doesn't taste the same, and it's smaller and thinner than it was. It seems that the quality of the food has been sacrificed in order to cut corners to afford the remodeling. Pity. I'm very sorry to say that I can't recommend the Pizza Shack now, and I really wanted to be able to do that. The food isn't good anymore, and the price hike has made it completely not worth eating. I...
Read moreYes...this was the Pizza Shack that stood on 15th an Porter my whole life, a pizza so purely South Philly nothing could beat it for 40 yrs...I have lived in big pizza cities an nothing beat them hands down. Now the business has changed owners 3 times, as far as I know, an the 3rd time for the Shack was not the charm. It's 3 strikes an your out. Now, this was a neighborhood institution.. they remodeled the whole place, got rid of the circular oven that was unique to the shack, the pizza now sits out in a counter case for who knows how long, jus like all the droves of pizza places you could go to in South Philly. Now it's not jus the look, I could deal with that, but the recipe has been changed... If Chuck only knew what happened to his baby...I have been a loyal supporter for 30+ yrs... An I'm sorry to say... But I'm no longer interested...an I'm not the only local who feels...
