I want to say that I really used to love this place, as I have been coming for years, for birthdays, for anniversaries, you name it.
Unfortunately as of recently a lot of what made Century Grand so special has been removed or replaced to satisfy a broader audience and to turn people out more quickly. I understand a business is a business, but this really hurt.
You will find that the menus are no longer inspiring and creative storytelling books filled with dozens of unique cocktails, it is now a single sheet of paper, which may be a win for some, but huge loss for those that fell in love with the uniqueness and craft nature of the bar.
There is now a much smaller selection of cocktails at each place, and the adventurousness and display of the cocktail itself has been toned down significantly. My guess is that this was done to either cut costs, or to cater to a wider audience. While the cocktails are still satisfying, century grand used to be the best place in Phoenix for cocktails, and now I feel that only their ambiance makes them unique now unfortunately, the cocktails just aren't what they used to be.
Maybe it's getting too busy to create those special cocktails for everyone, I understand a business has to make improvements where it can. I hope this place finds a way to satisfy both their new audience and the old...
Read moreDefinitely an experience! It has a couple concepts that they offer in one place. I did the train where it feels like you are riding a train as an immersive experience for 90 minutes. The windows show views of NYC around the prohibition era. Make the reservation. They adhere to the timing so arrive on time.
They have a collection of cocktails and drinks. I did a sweet drink where it was alcohol infused ice cream and a shot of a coffee liquor whiskey which was warm. It was a version of an adult affogato desert. Take a bite of the caramel they gave on the side, scoop of ice cream and then drink the shot. It was worth the experience to do.
Bartenders were nice and courteous. I would recommend a cocktail as it was interesting to watch the bartenders make them. It looked like a work of art at the end.
It does make you feel like you are riding a train in this experience so you may want to consider that if you have issues with motion simulation. I didn’t have any issues with it but just saying if someone is more sensitive you may enjoy the tiki bar experience that they have here as if you are on a ship. It doesn’t have that...
Read moreThis was where my son brought us as a surprise during our stay in Arizona. It's important to make a reservation in advance at a popular spot. I don't drink alcohol, so I don't go to bars or clubs, I just followed, lol. The right hand side of the entrance was Undertow and the left hand side was Platform 18. We had booked Undertow, but we arrived early, and we wait on Platform 18. We sat at the table with four people and each ordered a cocktail except me. The menu was an old newspaper with all kinds of drinks with interesting headlines. I took a sip of the cocktail that three of us ordered. Surprisingly, all the drinks had a wonderful aroma. As for the taste, All I can say is...Strange taste. Maybe you'll want to drink a few drinks. The interior feels like I'm going back in time and drinking in Chinatown. And I was able to see a special show of the day. Casual is fine, but if possible, it's a good place to come dressed a little stylishly. I'd like to come back here if I...
