Came here looking for halal food specifically and Iraqi food had us drooling because we’ve yet to find a good Iraqi joint. Crown is a great choice, but not our favorite.
Me and my husband went for the Mashwai combo which had three different meats chicken, beef, and lamb. The chicken was well cooked, perfectly seasoned and tender. The beef was juicy, moist, and flavorful. The lamb though was tough, not flavorful and very hard to eat. Maybe undercooked. The rice along the meat was awesome. Similar to Indian basmati and very fragrant.
We also ordered the beef shawarma though we’d love it if there was chicken. The beef was lackluster. There were clumps of fat and the meat didn’t feel like it came from a spit at all. It felt more Ike boiled meat. It had no pickles, garlic sauce (toom). Just a bunch of diced tomatoes in Iraqi bread. We did get served some salad so we used it with our shawarma and it kinda worked. There was also a date chutney served with it that worked better with the Mashwai combo than the shawarma itself.
All in all, the place has a nice Iraqi touch, some great bread, and quick customer service. However they could really bring us back if they served us shawarmas the way we...
Read moreThis place is delicious. Mind you, I’ve never had Iraqi/ Middle Eastern food to tell you whether or not it’s authentic but I can tell you it’s very flavorful! I highly recommend the Mashwai combo. It has a little bit of everything. Chicken, beef, lamb/beef mix and two types of rice both of which are cooked to perfection. They give you this warm bread/pita? and serve it with hummus and it’s 🤤. They also have a middle eastern cardamom tea that’s soo good. Upon initially entering it is a little bit confusing to know if you order and then sit or if your table is waited, especially because everyone is always working so they may not greet you at entrance (at least that was my experience) right away. Order upfront if it’s to-go but have a seat if you’re sitting down to eat there. After a few visits it’s clear to see that they remember you and treat you almost like family. One thing that I take in to account personally is plating and they...
Read moreSwitched over to new owners. Bring back the old ones. Asked for no onions due to an allergy and got a massive pile of onions on the wrong platter they served me. When I called to get it sorted they told me I was wrong because the website wasn’t updated in the past two months and that their menu isn’t current. Also the falafel was burt to a crisp the sandwich was incredible mediocre, and when I asked for my money back they insisted they couldn’t do it over the phone and told me to drive back 40 mins to refund me $30. The customer is wrong here, you’re supposed to know that the items on their menu aren’t updated, and they have zero remorse for putting an allergen in their customers mouth. Great job. Calling this restaurant Crown is incredibly...
