I'm confused and I hate leaving a family restaurant a low score because I love supporting family joints. I did a search for best taco tuesday and this place came up. They have great reviews. Yelp the score is 5 stars. But I can't for the life of me figure out why. Three things struck me as odd for a 5 star restaurants. 1 - the tortilla were terrible. I wish the kid who took the order had asked flour or corn because I generally don't love corn. This was the worst tasting corn tortilla I have tasted in a long time. I expect 5 star restaurants to make these things in house fresh daily. I will say we went late so maybe it just sat out all day but nothing about it tasted fresh or from scratch like you would expect. 2 - I asked the kid if I could get 2 flour tortillas because I didn't like the corn and I was charged. This was probably the issue that drove me to leave the review. I get that family owned places aren't quick to replace or remake food. I know I have been trained by chain restaurants to remake entire orders. 3 - the soda tasted off. I generally judge a restaurant's care on how they treat beverages. I know this place is known for Horchata which I probably should have got instead. And a lot of restaurants have been having trouble with Coke Cola service post pandemic.
That being said. We got the queso which was good. My wife had the mexican street tacos which she said almost tasted good again her issue was the tortilla also.
I got the relleno tacos which I was excited about because I never had them as a taco. I just didn't find anything special about them.
I will say it was a clean joint and the service was good. The two front of house staff members seemed really nice.
I will make it a point to give this place another try and next time go with something besides the tacos. And I'll update the review. To me this place was a very average take out...
Read moreI have to stop driving here. I go out of my way to come here and I can never get them to take my simple order correct.
The first time I came here I was helped in deciding which taco was best for me. Since then, I have played with the toppings and sauces until I figured out what tasted best for me.
I like the tacos the way they are I just like to add sour cream.
Every time I ask for sour cream on the side I get a number of ways this young lady puts it in. Usually canceling the cheese or the crema.
I always ask her is the crema different from the sour cream. She always answers yes. I would tell her, I would like sour creme on the side. And I usually end up having to pay for more creme or sour cream to just make sure I get what I want.
The cooks and the manager lady always act like it's me being difficult. When I order TWO BORING TACOS WITH SOUR CREME ON THE SIDE.
How am I making anything difficult. Today I opened my box before leaving and there was no cheese on the tacos. A bunch of creme, very little pico, like none existent.
The food is good. But if I'm going to paying $10 for two tacos I would like them to be the way I ordered them. Which was with no alteration. Just add sour creme to the darn side.
A few hundred dollars in and I'm out, will now be looking for a new taco spot.
They do have THE BEST CARNE though hands down. The food is great. Service not so much. And the preparation of the food seems like they just don't care. I do take it personal because this is literally every time I go in. Like why can't you just put sour creme on the side? Why do you make me to look like the bad customer every time when I just want to get my tacos and go home after a long day.
Mind you this place is no where near me. I come a far way to get their tacos. Guess I save money in the long...
Read moreThis was our first stop when we landed at Phoenix. Wow, I love me some tacos and Phoenix definitely has a lot to offer. Just Tacos and More was fantastic! You go there, order at the front, and they give you a number for your table, take a seat, and they'll bring the food to you. The people behind the counter was super nice and gave some recommendations. I went with:
Baja taco with grilled tilapia -- the baja taco includes cabbage, pico, chipotle salsa, avocado, and cilantro. I decided for my protein, to go with grilled tilapia. The tilapia was seasoned nicely... a little bit salty, but cooked perfectly.
Mango taco with fried tilapia -- similar to the baja taco, but with mango salsa. I have to say, I do enjoy the fried tilapia over grilled. The breading and seasoning was great.
Sea urban taco -- this taco had toasted cheese, bacon, avocado, blackened jalapenos (SUPER spicy), onions, cilantro, and. chipotle salsa. I had this with grilled shrimp This taco definitely packed some fire, but it was good!
Tequilla lime taco -- this taco had special tequilla lime seasoning (not enough tequilla ;-) ), cabbage, roasted corn (nice!), cilantro, onions, and habanero crunch. I also had this with grilled shrimp. Very tasty!
Chips and queso -- nice little appetizer, the queso had bits of steak on it... interesting, but good too!
This place also has a little salsa bar, where they have pickled carrots, onions, and jalapeño. Every time a place offers this specifically, its an automatic +1 in the star department for me. Phoenix has many taco joints to offer, but definitely check out Just...
