So for me it was a miss, let me explain, I was driving by and saw the chicago sign had me intrigued, so I stop. Ask the usual questions, prices, how many pieces, what part of the city and could they stand up to Coleman or Joe BBQ, well let's just say I was disappointed. The conversation was there, very nice person, very friendly amongst other things, never seen the wife but he spoke highly of her and her cooking the sides, which I did not order, but... baby when I got home and opened up the food, first impressions was OK this is a lot of food and the smell was decent, however if they or who ever fixed the food didnt give me old meat in both aspects, I had chicken and rib tips, you can tell it would have been good if it weren't old, this is what i mean by old food, they obviously heated up my food either by microwave or it had been sitting under a heater for some time. The ribs were tough some all the way through and others only the juicy fatty parts in the tips were edible, seeing as I only tried 2 or 3 tips, tearing thru them to taste and get the softer sides. And the chicken, he had me sold on the Crack power, lol the lemon pepper seasons, so I really wanted them, made me thing of sharks, but anyway. To say the least would I go again, maybe 🤔 he was real nice and probably some niccas around seeing it's right next door to a barber shop. But I would definitely have to check my food for freshness first, I personally don't eat meat heat up from the microwave, im an old fashion oven girl. But hey, one man's trash is another man's treasure, so im sure some ppl liking the food, he stay open for business, I wish them the...
Read moreFried foods not seasoned and I’m assuming for health concerns towards customers because a lot of black restaurants now a days are cutting their salt in foods, especially fried foods. The perch was kind of mushy one time. The Mac and cheese was not premium oven baked, it was pretty mid or a notch below if you ask me. Baked beans were decent. Ribs were good, you can’t mess up on that. Rib tips have been a hit or miss, sometimes they are just right on point: tender and flavorful and then there are other times where they are like the other customer said hard like horse meat, or like trying to chew a leather belt and I got to be honest most of the times I got the rib tips up here they were HARD which means it’s a day old barbecue from yesterday, rib tips are supposed to be so soft and tender that even the bone breaks when you chew into it. I had the barbecue chicken before and the breast part was hard, most definitely marinate the chicken over night or up to 4 hours before cooking. For some reason the pizza puffs tasted good dipped in the barbecue and...
Read moreFlavorless bbq. Drowned in sauce. They hide all the horrible flavors or lack thereof by smothering everything with sauce. Chicago don’t know how to cook no god damn bbq no way. Fish, chicken, shrimp all unseasoned. Ribs small. Rib tips HARD.
Update: yes it for damn sure must be NO FLAVOR, because yall hide everything with that sweet low budget sauce.
I recommend people try JL’s Arkansas BBQ aka Real BBQ from the Southern States of America. Not some ghetto, idea out of know where of some cheap bbq drowned in sauce to hide the fact there’s a BAD to NO FLAVOR little situation going on. And the BBQ is HARD and TOUGH TO BITE. Totally OPPOSITE EXPERIENCE you will get at JL’s BBQ. And I would also recommend Famous Dave’s as well for another CHOICE of LEGIT BBQ.
Rib tips at both JL’s BBQ and Famous Dave’s BBQ smoked so perfectly that EVEN the BONE is TENDER. I can NEVER EVER say the SAME about Reggie’s bbq. I had a friend from Mississippi tell me he threw the bbq out the window of his car after tasting it and he said “that ain’t no real...
