So this is going to be a long and convoluted analysis about the Reign of Thai. The score of two stars is not because the food was bad, it is based solely on a number of other extenuating circumstances from four visits. Right out of the gate I will state the food is exceptional and very tasty. Solely on that I would rate the restaurant five 😁 Stars.
But now this is where things are going to go in a very different direction. Personally I think the entire wait staff should be fired. Apathy does not begin to describe the level of incompetence and sheer lack of enthusiasm they have for their workplace. Are they solely to blame, I do not think so. There are other forces at work that conspire against the staff from having a meaningful relationship with their patrons. It's my belief that the owner and girlfriend partner are a little overwhelmed with running a restaurant. Especially a restaurant with a loyal following. It's because of their inexperience that the wait staff does not have adequate leadership or direction and get away with so many crucial things that make a great dining experience. Simply greeting people and prepping them for the experience is critical. Ignoring them to wait in limbo is ridiculous.
Why do I have to sit at the bar waiting to do a takeout order only to find out that the kitchen is closing and I cannot do the order. But I was sitting there quietly and patiently for 20 minutes waiting for someone to come over to me.
Most people are familiar with spicy food and why is it so hard for a non Thai person to get spicy Thai hot in your shop without wait staff adding their own options? On three separate occasions I was told Thai spicy hot may not be the right choice for me. How patronising does that make one feel. Sadly this was delivered by the same gentleman Waiter on those three different occasions.
Why must it take an hour to get ones food. Is the kitchen staff that overworked because of take out order request. If so come up with a more efficient process to speed up the experience. Restrict takeout to a smaller menu of items. If I'm waiting an hour for takeout then what are you doing to your table-side customers?
Keeping your establishment clean is also critical to a good experience for all parties involved. Why must the place seem dirty and dingy, glasses and cutlery in disarray or equipment that looks broken or disused be apparent.
You lot have a great chef, and I hope you have an epiphany to improve the details that make for an...
Read moreWhat a dining experience! The staff are all very attentive, polite and ready to serve. Customer service wants for nothing, by far one of my best dining experiences in quite some time, and definitely the best of 2016.
The food portions are generous, freshly prepared and made to order. Reign of Thai really is a hidden gem in the rough. Ordering Pad See Yew took about 20-25 minutes for the plate to be delivered, but the restaurant was a bit busy, so this isn't an issue. The food arrived steaming hot and looked exquisite, their presentation of the dish was unique in the way the serving plate is in the shape of a fish, and an ornamental carrot piece was fashioned into a flower sitting atop the entrée. The flavors were light and complemented each other in the way one would expect Asian cuisine to be when it's properly prepared.
Overall, the food was delicious, filling and I couldn't get enough of it! The atmosphere is laid back (casual), but could easily accommodate the most discerning of diners. The parking kind of sucks, but don't let that deter you from exceptional dining! And again, the staff here are just superstars, I mean really good, honest and polite people. It's so refreshing to dine in a restaurant where the staff aren't horrible to the guests or to one another. The best restaurant experience of 2016, for me, so far. Good luck all other places, Reign of Thai has a formula that I suspect won't be given up anytime soon. 5 of 5 stars, and I'm not one to just dish out 5 star reviews. Kudos,...
Read moreWent here for the Sunday lunch buffet because I've never been to a Thai buffet but the quality was lacking. Eating a regular meal here might be a different story. The price is good for the buffet but I don't know about the quality. I've eaten at many Thai restaurants and have a good idea of what's out there. So here is my breakdown about the food...the spice was good. I prefer hotter but most people can't eat hot food like me so I'm not going to dwell on it. However, there are a lot of curry dishes on the buffet line which isn't exactly representative of the variety of dishes in Thai cuisine. Additionally, the curry in these dishes is runny, they're supposed to have a thicker consistency like a gravy...it's like runny gravy. Furthermore, noodle dishes...I'm a little lost for words...the pad thai, Thai spaghetti which is a staple didn't have all the things you would typically find in a pad thai, it was lacking basic ingredients. Long story short, save your money but if you insist you might be surprised because you don't know what good thai food is or you don't have tastebuds. Call me a snob but I know what good food is and I'm...
