Today was my first time trying Rosita's. I ordered the machaca taco, carne asada taco, chicken taco, and a side of refried beans. I also ordered the pineapple slushy margarita. The carne asada was WELLLLLLL seasoned! It was very tasty. It didn't taste like a traditional Mexican taco. It didn't come with cilantro or lime, but the seasoning made up for it. I took a risk and ordered the machaca. Machaca is a risk because it depends on how long they cooked the beef. Did they allow it to simmer long enough for the meat to tenderize? Well, Rosita's seemed to allow the meat to simmer in a tomato base. I could tell they added salt, but it wasn't overly salty. There were some chewy pieces, but it was still good. The chicken taco was fine. It wasn't seasoned. It tasted as if it was cooked and maybe had a light seasoning, but I would skip the chicken tacos.
The beans tasted like they came from a can. I think they dumped a ton of cheese on top to hide the tinny taste.
One thing I didn't care for was the fact that they added cheese to my order. I ate the chicken wondering why they had so much cheese on the taco. Well, when I got the bill they charged me extra for all the cheese that I did not order. In addition, all of the prices on the menu were wrong. My bill was a bit higher because they advertised one price and charged me another. When I go somewhere that changes the prices on me, I don't return. So, I probably won't go back. I think they are adding things to your receipt and they aren't informing you. So, if you decide to try them, make sure you ask up front what you are ordering. For example, the waitress asked me if I wanted chips. I had to ask if they were included. She asked me as if the chips were complimentary. The waitress did not tell me that they were extra until I asked. I don't like that. I feel like they are padding your order. An extra dollar here and an extra dollar there.
I did speak to the waitress about the changed fees and they removed the cheese that I did not order, but they did not reduce the price of my order to what was printed on the menu. Either way, the food is good, but the prices fluctuate. Check and recheck your bill and be ready to pay a higher price than what's listed...
Read moreRosita's Place was packed so I knew the food would be amazing! My friend hyped it up as one of the best places in Aecadia... right on! I was ready to eat! We visited at one o'clock in the afternoon. Rosita's is not a huge place. The tables are close together and we had to squeeze into out booth so I was glad I wore my faja that day! đ
The mesera, Carmen greeted us immediately and recognized my friend even though he had not been there in some time. I was really excited to try the food because my friend was so complimentary, but the food was lackluster. I am sorry to be harsh but there it is. To start, I expect food to be both flavourful (a bonus at times) and with that lively kick of spiciness that Mexican food is known for. I am not am expert on Mexican food - I am Puerto Rican - but we do know flavour! So, call me crazy but I judge Mexican restaurants by their chips and salsa. Why? Because that is the first thing that is served, of course! It sets the tone for the taste sensations to be experienced during the rest of the meal. The salsa ( the standard is that you get two - the red and what I call the sweet stuff, the green salsa) and both had some kick, but no flavour whatsoever. We had to add salt to them just to get a little something. A disappointment, but at least the chips were freshly prepared (Yaaaay!) We both ordered tacos, his recommendation because he said they were "the bomb" and I could not pass that up. I ordered chicken tacos because no one could mess that up. The lowdown - the tacos were stuffed with dark meat and topped with lettuce. That was it. No cilantro, no onions (not a horrible thing), not enough cheese. That was it. The rice was lukewarm and had a very little salt added for kicks and grins. The ship was sinking fast! So the salvage this, I ordered horchata. This was the high point of my meal. The only issue, it was too sweet. I could not finish it. But it was good. Oh! I forgot to mention: the portions are very ambitious, so being your appetite. If you like the taste of your food, you will get more than your money:s worth! The service was brilliant (thank you, Carmen), but not enough to overcome...
Read moreFirst of all let me say we love Rositaâs, so it hurts me writing this review! Our family has been coming to this Phoenix staple for 4 generations the food is great and the atmosphere is fun but Iâve noticed on our most recent visits some shady things when it came time to pay. The first time I let it slide because I assumed it was a mistake but the last two visits I noticed the same âmistakesâlike random things being added to our bill or extra charges for drinks we didnât order, and things not matching the prices on the menu. we dined in maybe 6 months ago and when I got the bill we (a party of 4) were charged for 8 drinks and we all ordered waters. with drinks costing 4.50 each that was an overcharge of 36$. I told the people at the register and got it fixed but I also noticed the sun crisp we ordered was charged for 7.50 but on the menu it was 3.75. They claimed it was a typo but if i knew it was almost double the price on the menu I probably wouldnât have ordered it. The same thing happened today and I thought to myself if they knew about the typo why havenât they fixed it yet. Especially since Itâs been at least 6 months since the last time we dined there. not only that they double charged us for margaritas. They also tried to charge us for fries we didnât order. Overall BUYER BEWAREâŚ. I didnât feel comfortable paying with my card because it seemed shady so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND paying with cash so they cant take more of a tip then what is approved also thoroughly reviewing your receipt! Also they have a new policy that you get charged more if you pay with card so...
