I was told that this place was a must try. Before I decided to go I did a bit of research. I reviewed the menu online and liked the whimsical names they called the sandwiches. If you are from AZ you will understand. I then went to the reviews and many positive things were said.
We decided to swing by one Saturday afternoon. We was greeted like Norm from Cheers. Everyone had a smile. The person taking our order asked if we been there before. We said no and then he began to breakdown what they offered. Hot and cold sandwiches were color coded and all interchangeable except the meatball for obvious reasons. The options are plentiful. They even had many vegetarian options. We each ordered a sandwich. One Grand Canyon and one Vortex. The sandwiches are stacked with meat. We got the combo Zapps chips and an AZ Lemonade Stand to wash it down. I want to say that the sandwiches were awesome. They had a great taste and the bread was to die for. We decided to splurge and get a fresh piece of cheesecake which was on point also.
The ambiance of the shop had a cool vibe. The have a large tv that was bumping some old school music. It was something to groove in your seat to. When we left the staff wished us good bye. We told them we would be back and thanks for...
Read moreLate to the party but early to lunch 😋 Another hidden gem right next door to me and I've been putting it off "till next time". Great little shop at the end of a small strip of stores on Glendale and 12th Street. Very clean, organized and welcoming. Today we decided to try the #2 Tombstone (hot turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese and avocado). For such a small shop I think they had more subs available than Subway! The also have a good assortment of breads and right away the Dutch Crunch was calling our name.We decided to make it a combo with the AZ lemonade stand ( strawberry lemonade). Once again they probably have the largest assortment of AZ lemonade stand products,so many options. We arrived during a small lunch rush so we were 3rd in a group of about 5. Sandwich came out in perfect time about 5 minutes after ordering. Looking delicious and stacked high with all our desired toppings. We partnered the sandwich with the potato salad and one of their signature sauces the Bomb sauce.....talk about an impressive sauce. The bomb sauce is a jalapeno ranch and I don't know how they do it buts it's an even split of jalapeno heat and flavor with that cool ranch merged. The staff is super helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Great little shop with...
Read moreI've gone here twice and have to say this is one of my favorite local joints in Phoenix. Yes, it is a little pricey for sandwiches, but you truly are getting what you pay for. The bread is top tier (shoutout to the crackle bread especially), and the ingredients are just as good. On top of that, these sandwiches are THICK. My wife typically buys a full one and saves half for lunch, whereas I barely put down a whole one and don't need any chips or sides because the sandwich is plenty filling. The real star is the service though. The staff here are super nice and considerate. Just recently we had a to go order that ran a little late and they comped us a free cookie even though we were not pressed at all.
Can't wait to keep coming back and try more of what the menu has to offer!
TL;DR - Big chain sandwich shops are getting just as expensive for far worse quality, so go to The Sandwich Spot if you really want...
