As a person who is always on the hunt for some of the best food, I wasn't impressed with this place. Overall, ir was just kind of bland, ingredients seemed to lack quality, and salsa choices are limited and not great. I would much rather go to Chipotle than here. That's not saying that it didn't taste good, but it didn't give me a reason to come back nor would I recommend it to friends. If I were looking for good street tacos, I'd choose a place off of McDowell Rd. If you're curious, here's the breakdown of what my group thought:
Shrimp taco: my favorite of the order. I'll admit that they make a VERY good shrimp taco. The rest is downhill from this though.
Chicken taco: it's just plain chicken with their kinda-gross green salsa (described later in this review).
Al pastor: This was the biggest disappointment for me. If al pastor is gonna be street taco-style, I expect it to be similar to the kind that's off a trompo. This, however, was more of an American bbq flavor with hints of pineapple. Not bad, but not true al pastor in my opinion.
Asada Arizona burrito: the potatoes were unseasoned and just meh. It didn't have much salsa on it, and the meat (asada) was overcooked to the point where it fell apart like pot roast. Some people may like that, but I like asada to be more like a tender steak.
Quesdilla w/ carnitas: the quesadilla was weirdly sweet. My wife wasn't a fan. The tortilla has a more rough, rustic, homemade feel similar to the ones I had in Mexico, so that was nice. They're a little dry though.
Rice: Dry and bland
Refried beans: always good, but still not great
Chips: They tasted like the bargain price kind you get at the grocery store. They're a thicker chip that is barely salted.
Bombero sauce: they seem to pride themselves on this sauce, and it is good; however, it is really just a spicy chipotle bbq sauce.
Green Salsa: loaded with cumin, so it tastes more like jarred green salsa than fresh tangy tomatillo. Not a fan
Red salsa (Chile de árbol?): this was my least favorite alone, but MOST favorite on their meats. It complemented them well.
I hoped this helped you on your search to satisfy your taco craving, and...
Read moreLove this place! We used to visit more regularly when we lived in Phoenix, but it dropped off our radar when we moved north. We went there again today after two years, and I was hoping it was still as good as I remembered. I was not disappointed. If anything, it was a little better.
Tight parking in a very busy strip mall. Outdoor dining available. The restaurant itself was VERY busy, and the gal at the register had her hands full taking orders and calling out order numbers to be picked up. Nevertheless, she was very cheerful and even brought our drinks to our table amid the lunchtime crush.
My wife had the Al Pastor tacos, which were not only very tasty and authentic, they were plated so beautifully you could forget you're eating off a plastic plate.
I had the Bombero, a giant burro stuffed with outstanding carne asada and drenched in adobo. Nice, smoky chipotle flavor with (I think) guajillos and probably some arbol chiles too, because it had a decent amount of heat (but not overpowering by any means). The Bombero meal also included beans and rice, which were also very good. The beans are made with frijoles peruanos instead of the standard pinto, and they have a rich, creamy flavor that is hard to describe. Suffice it to say that if you like refried beans at all, you will love these beans. Rice was good but unremarkable.
There's a full bar, but we had the agua jamaica (hibiscus). Cold and refreshing, but just okay. Tasted like it was from a mix.
Tip and all, it was only $25, but we both left satisfied. (Actually, I was stuffed). This fast casual spot is incomprehensibly fast even at lunchtime, with a somewhat trendy ambiance and clientele, and a pleasant and efficient staff. We'll...
Read moreWe wanted to love this place. The girls at the registers were busy, they had non stop customers, which made us excited. You would think busy means hot fresh food. My boyfriend ordered the burrito meal, I ordered the super nachos. We waited as we saw 7 customers that came after us get food before us. 20 min later we are still waiting about 8 more people come in. I walk up to ask they ask the cook, the lady at the register had to look up the order and ask the cook, sure enough it wasnt close to done, now I'm not fluent in Spanish but I know what no vino means(didn't come). We drove 12 minutes to get home, so excited cause the resturant smelt so good. You would assume the cheese would at least melt by the time we got home, to our disappointment the cheese was room temp meat room temp and chips room temp. My boyfriend's burrito was warm but the beans and rice where room temp as well. We had to heat our "supposed to be warm/hot food" up in our oven. Not to mention we didnt get everything we paid for! We...
