Captain D's — Restaurant in Pikeville

This place has been my go to, in the Pikeville area for years. It was far better than Long Johns. and those were our only options. But the last few time I got food from there was terrible.

Just about 4 days ago, I stopped at Captain D's, got the seafood supreme platter, I chicken tender on the side, and the cheese cake. Sadly, the only thing I enjoyed, was the cheese cake.

My hush puppies were burnt, the slaw was warm, the fish tasted old and the batter was hard to bite through. The stuffed crab thing was almost black and super dry. Fries tasted old, not fresh at all. The shrimp was the same way, stale, hard to bite through and so on.

None of it really had a taste, it was super bland. I haven't had Long Johns in years but, I would probably recommend it over Captain D's right now. Which is truly sad, because Captain D's used to have the greatest good in town and at better prices. No you gotta play $10 for less than even mediocre food.

1st of all, the crew was friendly and hospitable. The food, however, was not so good. The fish is obviously battered and frozen. Had it been fresh, the batter would have been fluffy. The fries were cold and had been sitting for a while. Now...enticed by the pictures up front, my husband ordered the gumbo. It took a long time to get it, and when he did, it was no more than broth and rice. And this too was not hot. The Mac and cheese had obviously been prepped and put into a holding area because, by the time he took the lid off .....well, it was awful. This was store 367747 at 12:53 pm. So, for $33.02. Everything was delicious & the 3 workers were awesome to my husband & I, but there was a problem. I came in close to closing time due to coming from a funeral. It is also my birthday & I had the choice of anywhere I wanted to eat so I chose there. (It's my fav place to eat!) I have ordered the same thing for at least 35 years & I am 41. So that tells how long I have ate there. BUT I am in love with the sweet & sour sauce. Now u can get ONLY 2 things of it. They wont even sell you any.
