El Azul Grande Inc — Restaurant in Pikeville

I want to add some clarification as someone who's been a local of Pike County off and on for 20 plus years El azul has existed in several locations. In that time in recent years they have opened a second location I do not like the second location out by the Walmart and have spoken to many people who do not the people who run it there don't spice the food properly the service is not as good and the people are not as attentive and friendly as the people who run the original location I am saying this because there is a lot of bad reviews of this restaurant on here and from what I can tell from the pictures most of these bad reviews come from the additional location out by Walmart I do not recommend that location I do not like it I do not like the food there I do not like the service there and I have complained to the management in the original restaurant about the issue and they are aware of it and have heard it a lot I highly recommend if you want a good authentic Mexican food in Pike County, Kentucky, go to the original location, run by the original people in the landmark hotel on the 4th floor, that is the better. Restaurant and I have been eating there for 20 plus years, a lot of the people who work there, know me recognize me, and most of the time, know what I'm going to order before I order it, some of the waiters even bring me my tea without me asking because they know I'm going to order tea, so I highly recommend the El azul on the 4th floor. VERY upset with how they treated not only myself but my coworkers when trying to order food. We had called a week before our event so they would get a heads up because it was a large order. They kept telling us to call back or not even answer the phone, so naturally we figured it would be easier to place the order in person. The day of the event they told us again to come back which then we went somewhere else because we need to fill the order. Later on we needed more food because being a university event you never know how many people will come. I called and asked if we could place a order for one tray of chicken, steak, and rice. The MANAGER was very rude about the whole thing. I tried to explain it was being paid through the university and we didnt have an exact number of people because they were coming in and out. He kept getting hateful and when I asked what the problem was he hanged up on me. We used to love this place and really enjoyed their food but now the university staff will not be using them any longer. 1st time there having a family get together while staying at the Landmark Inn Ordered a beef enchilada and the beef tasted like puree that you give a nursing home resident The strawberry daiquiri tasted like powdered mix so I ordered a Pina colada and it was the same One family member ordered a $9.99 drink when the advertisement pic made it seem as though you get to keep the plastic cup as a souvenir and the manager had a COW that we were walking out with an empty cup When we tried to explain it was a "souvenir cup" he said of no We keep these and reuse SO WHY CHARGE $9.99 🤬The drink wasn't worth that !!! Then the next night, the same manager wanted to charge an arm and a leg for 2 small containers of take out SALSA He was rude both nights and acted so smug and self-righteous No way to act as a manager 🤬🤬 But, the servers were polite and very friendly
