When I found out that a new grocery store and restaurant is opening in South Charlotte that too a branch of a resaturant, Desi Ditrict I tried in Dallas Texas, I was really excited. We went in with family and friends to try this new place after the soft opening and was blown away by the trendy decor, huge open restaurant area, organized grocery aisles. Yes, since it was a soft opening there were some issues with labels and items mismatched here and there but still it being a soft opening, that was a non issue for me. There were lines of people at food court. I expected it take longer, but they moved pretty quickly. It was hard for us to choose with so many mouthwatering choices, we decided to eat family style and try as many flavors as we could. We went with hyderabadi food we all loved back home. Since I love most every choice it definitely felt like a feast. We went with Jalepeno Chicken, Goat Mandi biryani, garlic naans, Malai Kofta. Our taste buds were on fire. Loved it all. The quantity of Mandi biryani was so much that we couldn't finish it all. Every thing tasted rich, flavorful and we couldn't get enough of it. We ordered Black forrest cakes as well but since we were so full couldn't eat it then. Took it to a friend's dinner party and enjoyed it later in the day. Black forrest cake was so soft and it melted in my mouth. It reminded me of bakery cakes we used to eat during college days in Hyderabad. we loved DD so much, we tried again the next week end. This time we tried Chicken schezuan noodles, Paneer tikka kati roll and chicken burger. Even those hit the mark perfectly. I haven't had the burger like that in ages. This restaurant is going to be on repeat for us. It's a one stop shop for buying meat, fresh vegetables and eat heavenly food. Desi District has definitely improved Charlotte's food scene with it's fabulous debut and should be on everyone's must try...

(Hydbadi Istlye main “Awesome!”) From South Indian classics to North Indian favorites and my go-to Indo-Chinese dishes, there’s something for everyone. I tried the Mandhi, Tandoori Platter, Biryani, and even indulged in some sweet treats like jalabi! The highlight for me? Their Irani Chai paired with Osmania biscuits – pure nostalgia, Hyderabadi-style! Honestly, it’s “maki kirkiri!” Vibes This isn’t your typical eat-and-leave restaurant. The vibe here is super chill – perfect for hanging out with friends or family. You can sit back, sip some chai, and watch music videos on the big screen without feeling rushed. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the moment. Convenience What I love is the setup. You can place your food order and then browse their grocery store while your meal is being prepared. It’s perfect if you’re trying to knock out a couple of errands at once. And unlike most Indian stores with cramped parking, Desi District has plenty of space, so parking isn’t a headache. Service Yes, the wait time was a bit long during the soft launch, but they’re already getting better. The last time I visited, my food was ready in 20 minutes, which isn’t bad at all. I’m sure they’ll continue to pick up speed in the coming weeks. Overall Desi District is more than just a restaurant – it’s a whole vibe. Whether you’re here for their incredible menu, the laid-back atmosphere, or the convenience of shopping while you wait, this place hits the mark. Hyderabadi nostalgia, awesome food, and a welcoming space – it’s got everything you need. Definitely...
Read moreVisited Desi District for a dinner outing and tried their Paneer Pasta, Paneer Kathi Roll, and Egg Chicken Roll in the Kolkata style.
Service Time: There was a noticeable wait for our order, which was unexpected given the bustling atmosphere. Perhaps the high demand stretched their kitchen staff thin.
Seating: The seating arrangement was quite cramped, likely due to the popularity of the place. Limited seating meant people have to wait for a table.
Food Quality:
Paneer Pasta: This was a pleasant surprise. The pasta was well-cooked with a nice blend of spices and paneer, making it a unique take on the traditional pasta.
Paneer Kathi Roll: Another hit. The roll was flavorful, with tender paneer pieces wrapped in a soft, slightly charred paratha.
Egg Chicken Roll (Kolkata Style): This was a bit of a letdown. While the concept was exciting, the execution fell short. The roll lacked the usual spices and robust flavors associated with Kolkata-style rolls, making it taste rather bland.
Ambiance: The decor continues to impress with its modern take on traditional Indian elements which I found to be inviting and the hashtag #BeDesi really sets the tone for an authentic experience, but with the crowd, it felt a bit overwhelming.
In summary, while the food at Desi District has its highlights, the service could be more efficient, and more seating or better crowd management might enhance the dining experience. If you're not in a rush and don't mind standing for a bit, it's still a place to experience for its unique offerings.
However, for those looking for a quick meal with ample seating, you might want to consider...
