Read moreI've rated one star, not out of spite to bring down an average, because honestly you have so many great reviews, I know mine will likely not make too much of an impact. I've rated one star because my experience (explained below) was not a good one, because I'd like to pass along information to others considering dining with you during Oktoberfest, and because there is no option for N/A.
I was so excited to take my husband (of German ancestry) to a German restaurant for our 4th anniversary. It would be a welcome break from our 6-month-old and a special night to spend time together. Waldhorn has many great reviews and the price was definitely in our range. It would be a bit of a drive, but we knew it would be worth it.
I called in advance to ask to make a reservation but was told that a primary reason I chose the Waldhorn would also preclude any ability to make a reservation: Oktoberfest. I was told not to worry by the nice young man on the phone, however, and just to arrive a few minutes before the doors opened at 5:00 and we would likely be seated immediately. With this information, I went ahead and arranged a sitter and purchased tickets for a 6:15 hockey game. When we arrived at 4:55 and spoke to the hostess, she informed us it would be a 45 minute wait and on her list I saw a number of reservations who had already been seated. I didn't say anything to her about the misinformation because I knew that anything I said in that moment wouldn't be polite, and it certainly wasn't her fault I would need to make on the fly arrangements for an an anniversary dinner date I'd been planning and looking forward to for a month. (Hell, I even looked up the menu and picked out my entree, appetizer, wine and possible dessert ahead so we wouldn't be a bother on such a busy night!) I was very disappointed and given the time constraint couldn't wait the 45 minutes for a table so we left resigned to getting bratwurst and Bavarian pretzels from the cart at the hockey game as our anniversary meal. I would strongly encourage the management to be more transparent about table availability during Oktoberfest. As someone who worked in tourism for most of my adolescence, I hate the cliche of "you've ruined my night/vacation/etc;" yet, in this instance, I feel it appropriate. I'm sure your food is wonderful, but I can't say I'll ever be able to bring myself to make the trip down...
Read moreServer was attentive and kind. The place was buzzing inside and a group waiting to be seated. This was on a Monday evening. I had the waldhorn salad so so that I can sample the German potato salad and the other sides and also enjoy a simple mixed green salad with house vinegret. The main entree was Jager schnitzel which was two flattened pork fillets that were breaded with brown sauce with mushrooms and a side of purple cabbage that had an apple taste. I think they put apples in it but it was delicious, especially as a compliment to the pork fillets. I also had a side of German style noodles that come with the entree. They looked and seem to be housemate. The entire plate complimented each other and I was very satisfied with the meal I was stuffed, but I couldn't resist the urge to ask about desserts which were on special along with some menu item desserts. I went for the special which was carrot cake and cheesecake for this particular night, both of which were in-house scratch baked. The carrot cake was absolutely divine. It was moist just the right amount of sweetness and the cream cheese frosting was a great compliment. Hat off to all the chefs in the house. I wanted to give compliments to the owner of the restaurant which was walking around in the house which is rare to see. Thank you for the great service and the great food. I'll...
