My dad is from Pittsburgh and I grew up having good pizza. We’ve lived in Charlotte for 28+ years trying every pizza place imaginable. If we found one place, they would change their recipe and we would move on our search. I don’t mind paying for good food and sometimes Charlotte food is pricey for no reason.
We found Vito’s right down the road from us and gave it a shot. The prices are very reasonable and honestly this has to be the best pizza I’ve had in the Charlotte area and it’s the closest to pizza up north.
Don’t get me started on places that coat their dough with tons corn meal flour, which to me ruins the mouth feel and dries out the pizza. Or places that try to cover up cheap and rushed tomato sauce with sugar to tone down the acidity of the tomatoes; they aren’t foolin anyone, especially an Italian.
Vito’s crust is the perfect combo of crispy on the outside but the chew is perfect with no corn meal in sight! (I make bread so I appreciate the gluten development that can only come from someone who knows their stuff). Their sauce is flavorful and you can tell they care about it, it’s not acidic or unnaturally sweet. Their Maria’s Margherita pizza had thick slices of good mozzarella too! Absolutely shocked that I’ve paid more than they charge else where and not even gotten close to what Vito’s serves. Calzones use the same ingredients, again, all phenomenal.
I hands down recommend this place, and hope we support good local business to keep them thriving. This was after my first time, but will update my review if anything changes as this is now going to be my semi-weekly pizza joint!
(Ps. We couldn’t help but eat a slice before snapping...
Read moreI've lived in Fort Mill for 3 years and Charlotte my entire life and I've never tried Vito's! We decided to give it a shot yesterday and ordered an 18" cheese pizza with bold pepperoni and garlic crust. We also ordered Vito's sticks (stix?), which is basically a cheese bread (they use a 10" pizza dough, it seems) with a cup of sauce. Both items were fantastic, i feel silly for not trying earlier. The dough was fresh, thin and with a bit of "chew" to it. The sauce is great and the bold pepperoni get crispy and have a tiny bit of spice. I called around 530 or 535pm and was told my pick up order would be ready around 620pm. It seemed a bit long but worth it. The price is definitely higher than your chain pizza but, again, it's a completely different level of pizza. Another place that makes NY pizza i enjoy is Brooklyn's Pizza off of Rea Rd in Charlotte, and I have to say this has taken over as my favorite place for a NY pie. Give this place a shot if you haven't. I'll definitely be giving this small, local owned pizza shop more of my money as long as they keep giving me awesome pies! Since it's only a few minutes away it's definitely going to become a regular place for us when we decide...
Read moreThis is the best pizza we’ve had IN YEARS! The sauce was amazing, there weren’t any huge chunks nor was it crazy over powering, perfectly seasoned! All the ingredients melded in a symphony of flavor! EXCELLENT sauce/cheese/crust/ topping ratio, we got half pep and it was a true half and half. The slices folded exactly how you want a NY style pizza to do. Not only am I an EXTREMELY picky eater but I made pizza for 6 years professionally (I haven’t for a while, now I travel for work) and I am in awe of how truly incredible this pizza was. I wish I had taken a picture before we DEMOLISHED our 18” pizza. The service was prompt and polite and while waiting for our food I could see they make their dough in house and grate the cheese in house as well. I like a greasy pizza while the friend I split it with doesn’t and it left us both more than satisfied! The mouthfeel was everything you could hope for! Good price point for the ART that they make. I’m at a lose for word to describe how absolutely fantastic this pizza was, I will 100% be getting another pie before we leave this location and will stop by if ever back in town. Do yourself a favor and experience this pizza...
