It's been a very difficult journey with Ethan Allen of Pineville, NC. I've had quality control issues at every turn and the warranty service tries to go out of its way not to honor their coverage. The most egregious issue has been with dining room chairs that started breaking apart within the first month of use. I've attached some photos for illustration. When speaking with representatives in the store, they were aware of quality issues with specific shops producing their chairs of specific styles. I hate I was not made aware of this prior to purchase. If I could do it over, I would not buy from the company again. Let's consider the timeline for just these items: the chairs were purchased in 2022, arrived in 2023 (due to covid supply chain issues), and we're still working on replacement in 2024 which will no doubt continue into 2025. The best bet to get the store to respond quickly is to work with the credit card companies and get a charge back. Until then, they don't seem to take the issues very seriously. All I can say is ethan allen quality is not there, do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else.
Response to Ethan Allen on 28DEC2024: It's fascinating to hear there’s been no record of this happening in other homes with representatives of Ethan Allen having said otherwise. Where else does one come across this information? Moreover, it’s very difficult to believe that leaning back with full weight can do this. I, as a 40-year-old male, weigh less than 200 lbs, wife less than 130 lbs and two children less than 50 lbs each. If indeed this is the cause, one might cast doubt that such chairs are in fact made for sitting. Perhaps Ethan Allen should implement a max load warning label, or dare I say, support a movement to return to sitting on pillows on the floor? Nah, scapegoating the customer for a lack of quality is the order of the day.
The conversation that took place with Ethan Allen in August 2023 was that I should choose a different style chair and that the Benham dining chair would be a better choice as they were made by a different shop. It was Ethan Allen that suggested this option, not I. Consequently, after setting this expectation, I was dismayed to see the same style chair arrive. I have attached an email to the picture section reaching out to Ethan Allen in July 2023 not November 2024 as stated above. Note this was after dealing with another issue with a bookcase that was ordered without effective quality controls in place. In that situation, a black marker, possibly for measuring, was stained over and visible on the front of the bookcase (I can attach a picture to refresh the memory of the Ethan Allen representative if needed). And, a shelf was misaligned due to an improperly drilled hole which caused the bookcase back to bow (pictures can also be provided and indeed a separate review may be in order).
With regard to additional quality issues, Ethan Allen did come out to touch up chairs where the finish was missing from a formal dining room set which apparently the Ethan Allen representative appears to be conflating with just complaints in general about the lack of quality control. For example, drawers to said bookcase were removed and examined after it was found that they were installed incorrectly—scraping the top when opened. In that situation, the bottom of the drawers were splattered with stain. There was no touch up to these bottoms as the representative claims.
Bottom Line, when compared to competitors, like Kinkaid for example, Ethan Allen furniture falls below the mark. They should improve their quality control and fabrication practices and not scapegoat their customers. You can’t live on your laurels as a once great brand. Do better. I hope this exchange serves that purpose. Alternatively, go read the consumeraffairs website and...
Read moreI purchased a loveseat from Shari October 8, was delivered on December 13, and I was greatly disappointed, as it was nothing like the one that was displayed on their showroom floor. My sales person never called to see if all was okay until they sent me a review and I rated it a 1. Then they contacted me, had me send photos of the couch only to return a pamphlet on how to fluff out cushions. You should not have to fluff out cushions on a new couch. Finally manger came to my home to teach me how to fluff out pillows only to agree that they indeed couldn’t be fluffed out, so told me she’d talk to her manager, and call me back the following Monday. No call back, 2-week later I got an email that they agreed to re-do cushions, just needed arm covers to ensure correct dye/color. Called twice to ask questions, only to get a call back from my salesperson, not manager like I was told, asking if my email had changed as the one the suddenly started using was not correct, this was after receiving numerous emails I had already received from them using correct email. Asked the salesperson to get the manager to call me back as she did not have the answers, but needed to use emails to keep dialog of situation. Left 2 messages for manager to call me back, and here we are February 18th and I have my almost $4,000 custom made couch sitting in my spare room because it can’t be returned because it was a custom order, but it was was not custom-made based on the couch I was shown at their store. I would not recommend Ethan Allen to anyone, especially if you are dissatisfied with their product because they do not standby their end of the deal, no customer service … just wanted a beautiful couch...
Read moreIt is with great pleasure that I write this testimonial for Trevor Haslett.
Trevor is an exceptional interior decorator/designer who is extremely knowledgeable in his field.
Our relationship began just recently. I pursued the biographies of a few select Ethan Allen designers looking for the right person to work with. The process took 8 months. A process which can not be rushed as I want exacting perfection and not just anything “slapped together”, which I find offensive.
I asked Trevor to decorate the loft guest bedroom in our home. Trevor worked within the constraint of a small room, wood beamed ceiling, existing furniture and a preselected color palette. He needed to select paint color, design bedding, pillows, throws and make the room come together in a classic cohesive impressive style. I emailed photos of the room and this is where the other designers declined. Trevor rose to the challenge and dare I mention that a beam ceiling is an over powering element.
Trevor listened and then went to work. He chose the best fabrics, re-evaluated the color palette on each items and transformed this horrible room into a "jaw-dropping" guest bedroom. He addressed the details and employed the concept of refined class. The classic composition is stunning.
Trevor has the level of education and experience that equates into an impressive level of expertise. He is the epitome of excellence in his field and a most wonderful person to work with.
I highly recommend Trevor for any challenge and look forward to working with him for many...
