One of my new favorite spots and I have my friend to thank. She had never been either but she looked up best spots in Pinole and she read and shared that they have some Filipinx-fusion meals, it was an immediate "yes" for me. So after our stroll through Point Pinole Regional Shoreline, this sounded like a pleasant space to enjoy a meal. We elected to sit outside - it was breezy but we were protected enough by the outdoor cover that it did not negatively affect our experience. Our server was outstanding - Diana (I hope I spelled it correctly, if not and someone sees this, please correct me). She was incredibly pleasant and accommodated my need for decaf coffee (since no one really drinks decaf she did brew me a pot of it). My friend ordered the tuna sandwich and I ordered the Bistek Silog. I was quite excited for this meal. Per the menu, Bistek Silog is "ribeye steak seasoned with Filipino adobo sauce grilled with onions. Served with 2 eggs, garlic rice, & pickled vegetables." I did not have any pickled vegetables but there was plenty on my plate to enjoy and enjoy I did. It was delicious. Quality food and quality service. Diana provided optimal service, great person overall and loved her earrings (one was a frying pan with an egg I think and the other a spatula). I cannot guarantee you will have Diana as your server if you go, but I have no doubt that the quality and service provided will be phenomenal. And please, as with anything, be patient and enjoy the experience. It really is a great spot and I will be back to try the Bourbon Street French Toast and Eggs Benedict (probably not in the same trip but over several).

Sue’s Place is Pinole! During the pandemic, I had the fortunate opportunity to interview Sue for a project in school. They had just opened a few months before and business was present but slow. A few weeks after the interview, the picture I took of Sue and her daughter was on the front cover of East Bay Times. As things changed into their new normal post pandemic, Sue’s Place continued to grow a community of customers. Parishioners of the church across the street, local government next door, and those who came to check on an old favorite spot to be pleasantly surprised with new ownership and a menu of tasty food that reflects the ethnic makeup of Pinole. Filipino food, classic American diner food, Mexican breakfast food. Very friendly staff. It has that old town Pinole feel (the mural all the locals know is still there). Over 3 years later and none of those things have changed. The food tastes the same (or better), and the staff is just as friendly.

A very solid breakfast/brunch spot. I was excited to try it when I saw they offered some Filipino dishes, but the majority of the menu is standard breakfast/brunch fare. My friend and I shared the bistek silog and the pork belly bowl. They were both tasty but lacking in Filipino flavors. The menu item was actually listed as "Adobo pork belly bowl" but the pork belly was definitely not adobo. It was tasty because it was cooked very crispy and there was an adobo tasting drizzle of sauce, but I wouldn't describe it as Adobo. The bistek silog was tasty. The beef was nice and tender, lots of sauteed onions but the rice seemed like just plain rice, if it was garlic rice I couldn't taste it under the egg and sauce. The specials menu listed ube pancakes but when we were seated (around 11:30), our server said they were out of them. I'll definitely come back the next time we get brunch out, and I've got my eye on either the corned beef or the lugaw.

When I first came to Sue's Place, I didn't expect much from a small diner. Although most of their menu seemed to be breakfast items, it was lunch, so I opted for a Cheeseburger instead. What I got blew my mind.

Their cheeseburger is like none other. The patty was cooked to perfection: it was flavorful, soft, and juicy. So juicy, in fact, that it dripped meat juices the entire time I ate it. The patty itself was large, larger than I expected yet not unwieldy or too excessive. The lettuce was crisp and plentiful, the tomatoes were thick, and the sauces gave the burger's flavor a hearty kick. It really was a burger above.

Their fries were great, too. Crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside, each gave a satisfying crunch when bitten on. Their fries were fresh and tasty.

I had the cheeseburger and fries four times, each time was as amazing as the last. This place might seem like a small, unassuming hole-in-the-wall restaurant, but it's my favorite. I'd give Sue's 6...
