We had a mixed experience at this place. I really wanted to come here and leave it 5 stars, but I had two issues that may keep me from coming back. The aguas frescas, chips, queso, and guacamole were amazing— but the entrees fell flat. We ordered the Huaraches and Tlayudas. They were both covered with lettuce and tomato and that was not listed on the menu, (my partner hates both.) We didn’t complain. When management came by to ask how everything was, I told her that we loved the Huaraches but not the Tlayudas. That was all I said. It was overly salty and we took two bites out of it. She replied with “Oh! Ok.” and walked away. We were fully charged for that dish even though we didn’t eat it. I’m in the service industry, and when a guest doesn’t like a dish you try and find a solution— she didn’t try and that gives me little confidence to try this place again. We wanted to order dessert, but decided not to as we were dissatisfied. I would love to give the place another chance, but I need to know that I would be cared for differently in the future. Besides that we enjoyed the atmosphere and our waiter...
Read moreEl Rincon Oaxaqueno “hidden place like a haven or retreat” I believe this is the translation. Authentic Mexican food in Pittsburgh with tasty hot and spicy sauces is RARE! I sampled each of the sauces the green was more mild, the mole was rich, a medium red, and blazing hot red that had a kick which I could feel on my lips for 5 min. Food is very similar to the places I have been in Mexico. I had their burrito with shredded chicken which satisfied my palate! The atmosphere is simple with fresh bright colors customary to the southern border. I also found it interesting that they have a BYOB sign on the door as you enter! They cater wedding and private parties. They also have 2 food trucks, which can be scheduled in advance for your events! You no longer need to wait for a Mexican vacation as you can find them in the...
Read moreIf you read nothing else in this review, go get the enchiladas verdes. Their homemade salsa verde is full on amazing - it does have a little bit of actual heat to it. The black beans are also super good. Tostadas come with just a tiny bit of mayo on them, which I hadn't had before, and it's really interesting (in a good way). Of the tacos, chorizo is my favorite. And their flan is great. Prices feel a little high but food costs have definitely gone up all around.
The enchiladas de mole are also good, as was the huarache when I tried it. We go about once a week and love having a Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood. Right now it's takeout only but they plan to open a dine-in restaurant with more options in the near future. Sometimes they have specials, like conchas or champurrado, so definitely ask...
