Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Pittsburgh

This was the slowest Rita’s I’ve ever been to. They only had one window open with a line of six people waiting. While one worker cleaned out a freezer and another just stood around, all of the Italian ice was sitting in buckets on the floor — and they were scooping orders directly from those buckets. I’ve never seen that before and never want to again.

While I was waiting, three people left the line because of how slow the service was. When I mentioned that it was the slowest Rita’s I’d been to, the staff gave me dirty looks. One young lady even came to the window to stare me down before asking what I ordered, even though I was already being helped.

If she didn’t like the comment, she should have opened the second window and helped customers instead of ignoring the line. I will never return to...

Me and my son love Rita's Italian ice it never disappoints, but i dont appreciate when the workers act as though they are afraid to touch me when I am spending my money at their establishment. Yes I am an African American woman and the person waiting on us was a young white girl and the way she acted when she gave me back my change made me feel like I should have made her lay my money on the counter so she wouldn't have to come in contact with me. I never have had Italian ice, so I had no clue what to expect going in. I got the cherry one because I like cherry flavour in general. I got a medium size and still it was too much for me. Basically, it is shaved Ice with cherry flavouring. I guess it is an acquired taste, because to be honest, I did not like it very much. The cherry flavouring seemed way too artificial and chemical like for me, and the sweetness was again way too high for my liking. But I can see why some people enjoy this. It’s just...
