I go to any bakery in Pittsburgh and get the corner brownie. I am a black man trying to support black businesses and cannot purchase the corner Brownie in this black owned establishment!! I've tried 3 times. 1st two times with the same brother the second time was with the owners daughter. She offered me the dumbest reason why I couldn't get the two corner brownies she said it would dry them out yet the first 16 brownies were gone from the tray!!! To the stores credit the first time I went in there I ordered a dozen donuts and my three chocolate ice rings before I asked for the corner brownies and was refused so I purchased the donuts and they were good Donuts I must admit. I will not spend any money in the store until I am allowed to purchase the two corner brownies!! And the fact that someone said they saw a mouse in the case probably won't have me coming back anyway!!! ...
Read moreI grew up on this bakery and genuinely used to love it. Because it is a long surving family buisness in my communtiy i continue to support. I thnk however if they are going to survive homewoods forthcoming gentrification that they need to increase the quality of the offerings and the cleanliness of the store. Its also extremely greasy. This bakery does well so long as it has access to a customer base that enjoys base, sugar laden pastries, and it hurts me because I genuinely and deeply care about the future of this community staple in homewoods future. Loosing this bakery would be akin to loosing the library or pool. They however must do better by the community as well. Both community and bakery must raise standards. I hope they take...

Do not mistake my unwillingness to pay for expensive doughnuts to think any doughnut makes the cut. If you enjoy a light, melt in your mouth doughnut, this is the place! There are a variety of flavors to choose from. Great care is taken to cover the gooey ones from messing with the rest. There is smooth vanilla icing on most. Not too sugary, not grainy, just smooothhh! If you pick a chocolate covered one, it will have the vanilla as a base then the chocolate on top. The dough texture is again, light & fluffy. I prefer raised over cake doughnuts, but they have both kinds if desired and equally delicious. So if you're looking for a good dozen Sandy Boo's has...
