The Garden Cafe — Restaurant in Pittsburgh

The Garden Cafe was a great breakfast spot for your N.Side, Spring Garden, Spring Hill adventure. Small, quaint & eclectic decor on the inside. A few tables with seating await you on the inside. There is a lovely patio outside with a few more tables/benches. There is a small parking lot as well. But be early because it seemed to fill up. If you need to, there's some street parking close by. I came for coffee before a Step Trek on the City Stairways with a photography group. Prices are reasonable for fresh brews I snagged a 16oz iced coffee with a flavor shot & cream for under $5. They do take cash & card. They had light breakfast items available with fresh baked goods (cookies, muffins, pastries, snack bars). There seemed to be highlighted vegan options on the food menu too. I drove here to drop excess food off at their community fridge. I was excited to poke my head inside and check the space out because of all the stellar reviews about the friendliness and sense of community. However, the person behind the counter was incredibly curt when I approached, and I felt super unwelcome. She gave me my coffee, swiped my card for me, and then was turned away. When I asked if I was all good, all I got was a grunt. Not sure if it’s because I came in in the last hour, if they had some prejudice against me based on my appearance, or were just having a bad day. Either way, I felt pretty embarrassed and let down. 5/25/2025: We were in pittsburgh for the weekend with friends… we enjoyed the all white boat party on the gateway clipper, did some shopping downtown, and had some wonderful food! We were driving to the Airbnb on Walz street where our friends stayed And we just happened to pass by this cafe (we almost missed it except people were standing at the outside window ordering)! We stopped and went inside to find this nice out of the way cafe! The staff was super nice and we got excellent coffee, a blueberry muffin that is to die for 🔥💣, and I got a hisbiscus iced tea that was out of sight!!!! This place is now on our favorites list when we come to pittsburgh! You gotta stop...
