After 3 years of alternating from traveling to Pittsfield, mail ordering this amazing sourdough bread, and embracing the Farmer's Market at Forest Park booth as the best of all 3 options, we are completed attached to this bakery. Make sure you watch Michael Palin's Netflix documentary Cooked, third episode to see why.
Alas, Daniel, at the farmer's market is taking the winter off. So instead of mail order, we decided a day trip was in order.
We found some changes: the cafe has no dine in available--COVID has attacked again. But we were able to get most of the breads we love. Some were out of stock on this busy, busy December 30. No time for chatting or even a welcome smile. We love semolina, sesame, seeded rye (out), raisin spelt, San Francisco sourdough, and Jalapeno cheddar ciabatas.
We had never tried the apple turnovers. Since they had no almond croissants, we opted for this treat to have on the holiday weekend. I think we may have to move to Pittsfield to have these--weekly, if not more often. Wow doesn't quite describe these flakey, apple-filled delights. But wow anyway.
We will probably mail order next time. But we can't get croissants that way, and probably not apple turnovers. :(
And, since we can't eat at the cafe, even though all of their menu items are awesome, we may try the main bakery next time...
Read moreWords cannot begin to describe the pure disappointment I felt once I learned that Berkshire Mountain Bakery stopped producing the glorious gift to mankind: the kouign amann. The golden sparkle of kouign amanns made every gray, depressing day that passed, into one of jubilation. However, that ray of light dimmed into an eternal darkness. The kouign amanns are gone, and so too is my hope for man kind.
If kouign amanns have millions of fans, I am one of them. If kouign amanns have one fan, I am that fan. If the world is against kouign amanns, then I am against the world.
I ask for you to bring back kouign amanns, so that peace can return to the world.
Thank you.
Edit as of 9/6,
The sacred light that has once been shrouded with sin, has returned to gracefully shine upon our land. The delicate kouign amanns I have so endlessly yearned for have arrived home. Peace has returned to this world. Do yourself a favor and partake in this pastry that is synonymous to the high...
Read moreI LOVE the food and live in the neighborhood so I stop often. Unfortunately twice I've been blown away by customer service. Once the girl at the counter asked us to wait while she straighten out someone's order but when she came to us she told me we were too late too order sandwiches! It was one minute after their shut off time! She kept us waiting!! I let it go. But recently I order two sandwiches and two salads. Just about $50.00. I was going to take it to a function the next day so I asked if they could just separate some of the salad stuff so they wouldn't get mushy. After I had paid and came back to pick them up they said they needed to charge me more. Really? Bummer. I love supporting local places and the higher prices for quality food but I thought customer service would make it easier to take. I was wrong. They did a nice job, probably more than what was necessary also the food...
