Normally, whenever I go to this location, it's a fine experience and I get exactly what I order. The staff is normally very friendly and always greet me as a customer when I walk in or come up to the counter. Today, all of that went out the window, with the people who were behind the counter today...I didn't catch the name tag on the girl at the register, but the other young girl, she didn't even HAVE a name tag on. Whoever she is, she was the WORST!!! I walked in, and two old men just literally stared at me for the whole time I was there. (As I was leaving, I muttered, "take a picture, it'll last longer.") when I came up to the counter, instead of being greeted in a friendly tone, all I get are snotty glances, in between whatever the two girls were doing, as if I was interrupting them, and 30 full seconds of them COMPLETELY IGNORING ME! Outraged, I politely tried to flag down the one girl so I could just order a stinking bagel and coffee. That's all I wanted, honestly, it's not that hard. I could have gone back there and done it myself, and I would have been 30x as fast as what they were. When the girl at the counter and I finally made eye contact, all she said was "order whenever you're ready!" Wow. No hi, hello, how are you, GOOD MORNING?!? It is not that hard to be a human being. I get it, customer service is frustrating at times, and people suck, but it's not that difficult to be a person and treat other people with a little RESPECT! I ordered my bagel and she proceeds to not even toast it, put minimal cream cheese on it, and ask "is that all?" Like I'm the biggest nuisance in her life. Most bagel places, ALWAYS ask if you want your bagel toasted. I work for STARBUCKS and we're even supposed to ask people if they want their bagels toasted! Brueggers is a bagel place, most people want their bagels toasted, especially in the morning. I was so pissed off that I didn't even say anything, paid, and left. I hope these girls get their crap together, or get fired, because brueggers is a great place with great food, and they shouldn't ruin it for...
Read moreI've known Bruegger's Bagels has been in the area for the better part of three decades. I remember when there was a bit of a shift in the breakfast ecosystem of Bettendorf and Davenport around the early 90s when donut shops started disappearing in favor of bagel joints. Bruegger's emerged around that time, but I was never keen, as I was an ignorant child who did not yet enjoy any savory breakfast foods beyond bacon. Well, this morning was the day to end that sad trend, as I craved a bacon and egg sandwich - and a bagel might as well be the bread!
The interior or Bruegger's is nothing special. It's particularly clean at the moment, as they seem to be one of the last places anywhere to reopen their dining room. I asked the gentleman at the register about it - he attributed this to decisions made at the corporate level. Something about how their sales haven't suffered by not reopening at this point. I don't blame them - given the preference, I like it when a few less people are around my work.
It took me a little while to figure out my order, but I settled on a rosemary olive oil bagel with bacon and a single egg. I can't say there was much special about it, but it definitely hit the spot. The bagel was nice and dense with a hint of the rosemary in its name, the bacon was, well, bacon, and the egg was properly prepared and tasted good, as well. Definitely a breakfast sandwich I'd come back for again.
And come back again I should. I find it unfortunate the Bruegger's is in the opposite direction down Middle Road as my place of employment - maybe I'll be able to stop by on the weekend sometime for a breakfast sandwich? I can hope, right? We'll see, I guess....
Read moreAs good as the food is, the customer service absolutely spoiled my appetite. I walked in this morning with my friend, and started looking at the menu. It wasn't all that busy, nobody behind us, but a man with dark hair and glasses yelled at us, "CAN I TAKE AN ORDER?!" it hadn't been a full minute, and I hadn't even looked at the menu fully. We rushed to give him our order, two bagel sandwiches and a coffee. In my haste, I asked for an iced mocha instead of a chocolate cream cold brew (which is what I wanted). He scoffed, and mocked me to my face for making such an egregious mistake. I worked as a barista for a long time, and fully understand the difference, but didn't think it warranted such a reaction from this man. I took a few seconds to figure out the correct drink, and we checked out. I can't remember the last time I did not tip a service worker, being one myself, but that was beyond the pale!! The only reason I can think someone would be such a jerk is if their dog died that morning, or that they got in a car accident on their way to work. Unfortunately, there's another review on here from 3 months ago mentioning what seems like the same man displaying the same behavior. The owner responded to it, saying they would take appropriate steps to remedy the situation, but I don't think they have. Based on how self-important this man acted, I wouldn't be surprised if he...
