Used to be friendly service .... Manager goes to my fiancee and tells him that is for dinner not lunch . We were there @3pm change over for dinner food is @ 3:30 we had 1 plate from the buffet . Went to get another plate of food and manger went up to my fiancee whom is Latino and told him that food he placed on his plate is for dinner and she has to charge him dinner price . Mind you , I am Caucasian and had a dinner item on my plate as well . My fiancee is pulling the race card , as for me doing so , not so much. We put our plates of food down and reminded her it was the 2nd time she has done this disrespectful act to us. She did not go to anyone else that was there eating lunch then went up for 2nds or 3rds on the dinner time schedule. Nor did she speak to me niether. Once we went to the register my Fiancee placed a $100 bill to pay her for the 1 plate of food we had ate along with confronting her about the last time . The last time we went to pay , I said 1 senior and 1 regular please . She said I should charge you for dinner . We walked out that time confused looking at each other . So this time I told her stop talking I dont want to hear it you either allow us to pay for what we have ate or let us leave . She said calm down go eat it's ok . I said i don't think so not after the disrespectful attitude you gave us and this is the 2nd time . She said here take some food to go . I said look we just either want to pay for the 1 plate we ate off the buffet or you tell us to just leave , 1 or the other. She tried to get us to stay . At this time now I am shaking and seeing red so I told her that I was 2 minutes away from calling the police . I told her to go to the Hibachi restaurant in Mishawaka to learn some respect . That is why people don't eat here as much they go there so you should go there and maybe they will teach you how to respect others . I said either take our money or let us go. Finally she said with a calm voice she says it's free go ahead and go. .... So giving her and this place the benefit of doubt due to being human and everyone has bad days , not doing it again and I pray that this doesn't happen to...
Read moreIt depends when you get there. Best time for us is 11:30 a.m. Buffet is usually well stocked and fresh by then. Never encountered "visitors" in my food or felt ill after eating there. They're redoing a lot of the interior now & maybe the carpet issues will be resolved.
Parking can be a little tight at peak times. We like to get there early for lunch or dinner: a little less busy. Of course this might change, but so far we like those times.
If you go away hungry, you haven't tried enough options! And if you want something that's run out or seems a bit picked over, they'll have fresh out pretty soon. Meanwhile, try something else!
You can order a la carte, or have what you want to have cooked right in front of you! Lots of great dishes! Visited 06/18/2022 at 12:45 p.m. I stand by my statement of getting there as soon after opening as possible. Food this day and time was either way overcooked or had sat out longer than it should.
Crab Rangoon was half rubbery/super hard and shattering when bitten. BBQ meat skewers very rubbery. Sushi extremely tiny, plain, and drying out. "Hot" foods tepid, such as breaded zucchini and fried fish.
Young man bussing tables used same cloth on seats as table tops. Was glad I had a paper place mat. Did not set any utensil directly on table. Was not inclined to leave a tip, which is the first time in decades.
Staff kind of standoffish or disinterested.
May give it a chance in a few months, and if so, do intend to be there nearer opening time, when things are fresher.
It's a sign of the times.
I know this restaurant is having the same staffing issues as other places. They may be tired, but I used to work a similar job and if I wanted to make a decent paycheck, it behooved me to give the best service possible.
If I come back and things have improved, I will report what is better. But I won't sugar coat that this visit was the worst so far. Very...
Read moreKing Buffet presents itself as a culinary establishment of considerable breadth, offering an expansive array of comestibles designed to satiate diverse gastronomic predilections. Patrons typically encounter a cornucopia of Asian-inspired fare, predominantly Chinese, alongside a selection of American comfort dishes, thereby endeavoring to cater to a variegated clientele. The culinary methodology frequently involves a buffet-style presentation, wherein a multitude of prepared dishes are laid out for self-service. This ubiquitous approach allows for immediate gratification of one's epicurean desires, enabling guests to curate their own plates from a myriad of options. Common staples often include various iterations of poultry, beef, and seafood prepared in customary Chinese culinary traditions, such as General Tso's chicken, beef with broccoli, and an assortment of lo mein and fried rice dishes. Beyond these mainstays, some King Buffet establishments also feature specialized stations, most notably a Mongolian grill where raw ingredients can be selected and then stir-fried à la minute by a chef, and a sushi bar offering freshly prepared rolls and nigiri. From an experiential standpoint, King Buffet generally prioritizes accessibility and volume. The ambiance is typically functional, focusing on accommodating a significant influx of diners rather than cultivating an intimate or haute cuisine atmosphere. While some locations may strive for a welcoming interior, the primary draw remains the extensive selection and the all-you-can-eat model, which appeals to individuals and families seeking a substantial and economically viable meal. Customer feedback often highlights the sheer quantity of food available and the prompt replenishment of dishes, suggesting an operational emphasis on maintaining a consistent and abundant supply to meet demand. However, the quality of individual dishes can be subject to variation, a common characteristic of large-scale...
