We went here for the first time today. I was apprehensive at first because of the reviews being so split. As we were walking in a family was walking out, and as I held the door open for them, one of ladies said to someone in her family, "I'm not coming back here." I asked. Is this place not good? She said, "I didn't like it. The meat is bland." Despite my hesitation due to the reciews i had read and the feedback as we walked in, we decided to try it for ourselves. We liked the tacos, we ordered 4 asada, 2 al pastor, 1 chorizo, and 1 quesa birria taco. Here is what I noticed, the asada didn't have that intense smoky taste most Tijuana style taquerias have, the guacamole needed some salt, but they have salt packets, so that worked for us. The al pastor and chorizo were good. The consome for the quesa birria needed a bit of salt as well, once my added the salt along with lemon, cebolla and cilantro the consome was better, and the quesabirria taco itself was good. The spiciest salsa they have has good flavor. Overall, this is a place I would return to for tacos. I know when you go out for food you would expect for it to be seasoned perfectly when you get it but it's not a big deal for us since all we thought it was missing a bit of salt. This is one place that I guess you either like it or don't, you have to try for yourself and decide. Last thing to note, this is in P-town and the area may appear sketchy if you'renot used to it. I think that if you're minding your own business and alert of your surroundings you...
Read moreAfter seeing real after real after real on Instagram about this Taco spot the reals showed their homemade corn tortillas quesadillas oozing with cheese and every Taco slapped with a big pile of beautiful green guacamole. I decided to head out. I was particularly interested in their giant homemade corn tortilla quesadilla. I ordered four tacos two asada 1 pastor and one birria. I also ordered the famous corn tortilla quesadilla with asada. The tacos other than the homemade tortilla we're good but I wouldn't say great. About half of the guacamole on each Taco was not bright green and had that dark color which typically forms when the guacamole has been sitting out and oxygen comes in contact with it. It lacked flavor it tasted a little watered down. The meat didn't have much flavor and was rather dry so I had to sauce it up. The song says we're decent there was green which was pretty good and a house tomato base salsa which was like a runny pico de gallo. Now let's get to the popular quesadilla that made me drive to Pomona. I wanted to love it but I only had half. The tortilla was rather thick and I don't know if it was a cheese or the oil from the meat but it had that old oil taste to it which was a big turn off. The atmosphere was normal bench style seating large open space very clean. The cashier was very pleasant and welcoming with a great big smile on her face and that was probably the best part...
Read moreI would say a 3.3 only because staff was trying, they're just clearly not experienced enough yet.
The staff needs more training. When I walked in I beat the dinner rush approx 6:45p yesterday a Friday night. I was shocked no one was in line. Once ordered and paid a $.75 debit fee. It was a mission just to get my drinks. I did finally receive them before the food.
Now to the food, my torta bread wasn't toasted at all tasted fresh but cold. The asada was like warm and cold. It left a very dry tasting Torta. We also tried some Tacos and Quesa Tacos. I had similar experience with the tortillas. Nothing tasted fresh off the grill and was borderline cold.
I read reviews here about the guacamole and I can confirm it needs seasoning. Very bland tasting guacamole.
I will be back one more time before I decide on this location. I hear good things about the orange location. I just would rather not drive all the way over there. Defeats the purpose of them opening...
