It was my birthday yesterday..and my husband took me at Deccan Spice..and boy ..it did not disappoint! I have been following them on Instagram for some time now. We had the Samosas...the veg spring rolls which were so crunchy and delish ..and full of flavor..we also had the Schwan shrimp...oh my!! The flavors!!! So perfectly cooked...the shrimp might have a bit too much batter in it..but it was still so Delicious!! My husband tried 2 of their cocktails..and he said that for the first time...he got his money's worth in the drinks..and even got a little lit...I am glad I was driving...😁. For the dinner my son had the shrimp Tika and my husband had the Lamb Tika...which he said was literally falling off like butter. The shrimp was perfectly cooked in the shrimp Tika..and what we liked about it ..the Tika was not too sweet and brick red in color...it was more natural In color...tasting the spices. I had a fish dish...I forgot the name..it was recommended by our Server, Sharon. She was very sweet and knew the menu very well..and was able to describe the dishes to us. 💗 When I saw my dish..I was a little apprehensive....but it was amazing. it was definitely a white fish.. perfectly cooked in a handful of warm Indian spices..and the Naan..we got the garlic..then onion...and the butter ..be careful..we ordered 2 of each..and it was a LOT!!! We took our leftovers home of course😁. The food was what I expected.,..the server asked us for our desired spice level for our dished..Indian level....my husband and I got medium...our son...none...this is something they ask in Indian restaurants in India. When we first drove up..we saw it was in a shopping plaza..which is a bit off..but when you walk in...the decor is very modern with clean corners...their stem wear shinning in the lights. Their buffet table set up...which we found out they do on the weekends..looked so elegant and we'll thought off..well placed. I really liked the way the seating was done... beautiful tables..that were not tipsy turvey..😁...the while interior decor is what Indian restaurants should look like. Modern...sleek...elegant.,and not too big ..and we were most pleased to see the restaurant busy on a Friday night..not only with their takeout..but indoor dinning was certainly happening!!! I hope that you keep up the service and your level of excellence with your food. We will be coming back to try your buffet...and I will post again. Usually when I go to an Indian restaurant... I am disappointed in one aspect or another ...not this time!!!! And I have to tell everyone..I told our server Sharon...we were celebrating my birthday..and we did not intend to have desert there..but as we were waiting for our check...we were pleasantly surprised by the server bringing me a birthday dessert...the Rus gulah...which was a very sweet guesture. Thank you for that 💗. It was served cold...my suggestion...please serve it warm..with perhaps...some pistachio slivers and maybe some gold bits...but I do thank you for my birthday desert..which was beautiful and tasted great..but would taste 💯 better ..warm. Another thing...before I go ..there was something very European about the service..I do not know if this was intentional..but because my husband and I still had our drinks in the table ..the server did not come to us to shutte us off. She gave us time to enjoy and finish our drinks before she caught our eyes for the check....well done on that!! YOU have set yourself apart Deccan Spice from all the trashy Indian restaurants...sorry....please stay as you are ...and keep posting those amazing photos on your Instagram...keep that service and that stellar.... amazing....clean tasting Indian food...keep moving it up..and Sharon...our server..and we had a young gentleman...who brought our food and my birthday dessert to me ..you guys were amazing!!!!!! knowledge of Indian food and the spices are key as well.....WELL DONE guys!!! Thank you for elevating Indian food and the experience in every way....I will be...
Read moreMy husband is from England and he chose Deccan Spice in Pompano Beach for his Father's Day Dinner. He said it's some of the best he has ever eaten (including England!). Our server, Samanth, was excellent. While ordering drinks, he told us of the specials and recommended the Taj Mahal Beer, which was special priced. It was very good and we were not disappointed! Samanth then explained some of the menu items to us and recommended his personal favorites. We ordered the Manchurian Chicken, which was lightly-fried and in a lovely sauce (which we, thankfully ordered mild) and the Railway Pakora, a vegetarian option, lightly fried spinach, potato and onion (our favorite appetizer here). Both were delicious! For our entrees, my husband ordered the Goat Biriyani (which he said was very tender and flavorful), one son ordered the Lamb Biriyani and said exactly the same of his dish. My oldest son asked for a recommendation of the curries listed and Samanth said he should try the Andrha Curry, which my son ordered with goat and medium spice. Samanth then explained that he is from the Andrha region and this dish tastes just as if his mother made it. I am not a huge Indian food fan, so I ordered their version of Fried Rice with Shrimp, and was very happy with my selection. It is cooked with basmati rice which gives it a softer, noodle-like texture. The servings were large and we all needed "to-go" boxes. We also shared Butter Naan and Garlic Naan, which were light and flavorful. For dessert, my 3 guys had already spied the Bunnu Brownie Delight (warm brownie, with chocolate sauce and chocolate ice cream, served in a hot skillet) and the Caramel Delight (similar to the Brownie dish, but with a salted caramel brownie and caramel sauce). Samanth suggested we try one of the tradition Indian desserts, Double Ka Meetha, which was very similar to a warm bread pudding, so we opted for that over the Caramel Delight. 2 desserts, 4 spoons = disappearing dessert in record time! We all agreed that the Double Ka Meetha was our favorite. The atmosphere is chic and beautifully decorated. Samanth was top-notch, even reminding us of the lunch buffet that is offered each day. My husband said it was one his best...
Read moreWeekend buffet: The best Indian buffet we've had in years. And certainly the most upscale. (Of course, the pandemic put an end to buffets and many restaurants chose not to offer buffets anymore so there hasn't been much choice.)
Still, the space is elegant and the buffet is displayed nicely. The side nearest the main seating area is non-veg; the side nearest the wall is vegetarian. (As vegetarians, we didn't look at the meat side.) We were told they change up the dishes all the time.
On our visit there were two mango desserts, one cold, one hot. Three appetizers: spinach pakora, spiced chickpeas and upma, plus pieces of naan bread and pappadum. Three entrees: a potato dish (dry, not in a sauce), dal makhani, and a paneer dish in red sauce. Then white rice, a spiced rice dish, and sambar soup, plus a vegetable biryani directly opposite on the otherwise meat side.
After that at a smaller table was a dosa station, where dosas were made fresh by request and brought to your table when ready so you don't have to stand there and wait. (We chose potato filling and they were delicious!) Also at this table there was pani puri and the typical condiments such as cilantro coconut sauce, tamarind, lime pickle, etc.
Lastly, there was hot chai tea and a cold beverage that could have been an herbal tea.
The weekend buffet was $24 per person. You can also pay extra for bottomless mimosas. We did not, but I think I saw somewhere that it's $12. During the week the buffet is offered only on Friday. We were told Friday's is smaller, so it probably costs less but we didn't ask.
We certainly had enough to eat. The dishes were not as hot spicewise as we normally like, and while the options weren't our favorites we enjoyed our lunch. We will...
