It's my daughter's 13th Birthday and we feel horrible because it's a mile stone, but we knew we couldn't do anything big because of Covid-19. She absolutely loves seafood so we decided to treat her to a Mr. Boil seafood bag.
My wife and I invited two of her close friends. She's "The big 13" now and all grown up (eye rolls), so we wanted to let her sit alone with her friends to give them some space while we chaperoned from a distance. Each teen had their own money so they were prepared to pay for their own checks.
Unfortunately, our request for separate tables was denied. Despite explaining that we had no intention of sitting together or rearranging their "social distance set-up." The rude host went on about not taking parties larger than 6; However, our request was for two separate tables and checks. A table for a family of 4 and a separate table for 3 teens, which was ready and available at the time we entered the restaurant.
I then asked to speak to the Owner. The Onwer's explanation was, "We aren't taking large parties." He said requesting 2 separate tables would put them close to capacity and they wanted to leave space for "different people", whatever that means. He stated although the tables and checks would be separate, we still know each other. He also stated that putting them close to capacity would crowd his waiting area. Keep in mind, the waiting area was empty at the time and there was plenty of seating available to accommodate our request. You would think filling seats would be a good thing and If your restaurant happened to reach capacity, you could simply give people the option to wait outside or simply turn them away. This was extremely frustrating because neither of his explanations made any sense. Now I'm questioning, if their restaurant wasn't putting itself in violation of the Governorn's orders and they're still making money, what was the real issue? I'm starting to think the manager felt as though there were already too many black people in the restaurant and we would add to it. He kept saying it's not about the money, "we want to leave space for different people".
Shoutout to the restaurant next door, "Salsa's" gladly made accommodations for us. I will never return to Mr. Boil again. The management staff is incompetent and the host is...
Read moreWe were in City Center on our way to PFAC and wanted to stop for lunch. We thought we'd give this place a try. Mistake. It advertises itself as "Authentic Cajun Cuisine," but I thought it was less authentic than Popeye's. Another rule I should follow is never go any place with a complicated menu. We decided to go simple, I ordered a chicken tenders basket and my partner ordered a shrimp basket. The server stated that it would be 10 - 15 minutes and I thought, "good, they must cook fresh." Second Mistake. One of my pet peeves is when one person's meal is brought out alone and your meal mate has to watch you eat. That's exactly what happened. I got my chicken tenders basket with ketchup as a dipping sauce. Yes, that is definitely amateur hour. I asked for another dipping sauce and all I was offered was ranch salad dressing (definitely bottled). The chicken was bland, it reminded me of an appetizer from Ruby Tuesday's or Applebee's. It was definitely from a frozen package and heated in an oven - - no flavor and really dry. I had fried corn on the cob as a side - - third mistake. I've never had this before, it was two half-ears of corn (suspicion is again frozen) coated with this bland coating that the half-cob just slipped out of. Partner's shrimp and fries were okay, but I also think frozen. The server apologized for the food coming out at different times and informed us that they were still on a "soft opening." I hope that to stay in business that they fix a lot of things before they're grand opening like the cushion that runs along the wall booth which moves when anybody sits down or gets up. All I can is that maybe we ordered the wrong food, but the wait for the food and especially food not worth waiting for does not entice me to make a...
Read moreI heard about this place from a friend and decided to check it out. When we first walked in we noticed the A/C was out and only like two fans blowing air around so we decided to take our food to-go.. now this was probably was the BEST decision we could’ve ever made. I’m at the bar waiting for my to-go order and I see so many sanitation issues it’s not even funny. For one they are scooping ice with the cup itself and with no gloves on, no ice scoop is present anywhere, they are also taking the paper off straws and putting the straws in the customers cup for them while also touching the tip of the straw that the mouth goes on. That’s not even the worst part that I saw, so I’m guessing it was a busy night and they were running out of silverware so a couple of the waiters where running to the back grabbing forks and crab claw “crushers” and wiping them down with this dirty sponge and rinsing them in the murky dish water that they had up front and then drying them off with paper towels and giving them to the customers! When I tell you I was DISGUSTED! I work in food service and sanitation and it’s so sad because the other ppl around me didn’t even notice and was eating off the FORKS! The waiters are touching cash and credit cards and then scooping ice with the cups and bare hands and touching straws and improperly washing silverware.. all I can say is CROSS-CONTAMINATION AND HEPATITIS is gonna break out around this place if things don’t change! But I will say this the FOOD WAS AMAZING and soo good! I had the pound of shrimp...
