Ok ... this was my second time to eat at Cou-yon's, in Port Allen. Do you like BBQ ? Well the ribs and pulled pork at this place make BRQ look bad. Lunch here is crazy busy Monday through Friday, but it was good for a Sunday lunch, and worth the short drive from Baton Rouge. There were only two small round corner tables for parties of more than four. Bummer
I got the smoked wings. They were excellent. I got a side of fried green beans and they were also a+. They were as good if not better than the fried green beans at burger Smith. The smoky BBQ sauce was not salty and slightly sweet.
One kid got the cheeseburger, and it came out immediately. I was concerned that it was cooked way too in advance. But that wasn't the issue I had with it, they just brought it out with cold shredded cheese on it. I was not impressed with that. I was also not expecting a meatloaf styled meat Patty. It was good, but again not what I expected. No kid burger was offered.
One kid got the ribs. They were dang near perfection. I just would've liked them a little more heated with temperature. The side was the baked beans, and Mac n cheese. The beans had a great flavor and packed with meat, (pulled pork?). The Mac n cheese was good.
The sweet barbecue sauce was sweet as it should've been, and had a unique taste. Not like just some store-bought bottled stuff. The smoked barbecue sauce was good also. I did not try the spicy.
The last kid got the fish, which was very good but it had a little skin on it which was not that great, but perfectly seasoned. The hush puppies were excellent. The baked beans were again a hit with the Texas toast.
The sweet Carolina pulled pork sandwich combo came with fried green beans. The pulled pork was very good, and the fried green beans were again a hit.
The fried shrimp plate came with red potato salad and fried okra. The potato salad was slightly sweet, for my taste, and the fried okra was standard fare. I was impressed with the fried shrimp and again with the hush puppies.
I was not impressed with the $8.00, 32 oz. margarita, it was sweet and had a powdered mix taste. I give it a C minus and was no comparison to the ones at Tio Javi's, superior, or Mestizo's. It was more similar to la Carretta, and Los Reyes. Not as sweet as...
Read moreWe are in town for LSU. I asked the front desk clerk her restaurant recommendations, and Cou-yons was in her top 3. Upon arrival, the parking lot was slightly packed, but it's bc they have a drive-thru line and a call in order line. We chose to dine in. First, let me say the customer service is top tier. I explained that we were from out of town and the young man who was taking our order, kindly explained the menu to us. I got 6 smoked wings with potato salad and cajun rice dressing. My child got a half slab of baby backs with waffle fries and mac and cheese. They have three different flavors of bbq sauce. We both chose the smoky flavor. My food came out fairly quick and looked delicious. My child's took a little longer. I waited until his food came out before I eating. Finally, his food came. We said grace and commenced to chow down. The wings had a good flavor without the sauce. I was more impressed with the rice dressing. I don't eat a lot in one sitting, so I had food left over. I got a to go box for my food. My son's plate was empty, so it was no question if his ribs were good. I ordered food to go as well for later. I ordered a leg quarter plate with rice dressing and baked beans. I got another larger side of rice dressing and an order of bread pudding.
Here's where things took turn. Later in the evening I wanted to finish my food. I still had 4 chicken wings left over and some potato salad. I warmed up the wings briefly in the microwave and sat down to eat. The first drummette was fine, however the second one was not cooked all the way through. It was red and raw in the middle and not edible. I was so disappointed and disguested at this point so much that I just threw the rest of my food away. Everything was good for me up until that. You can see the piece of chicken in the pictures I've attached.
I spent total of like $75 on 3 meals, an extra side, a dessert and 2 drinks. I wanted to give 5 stars bc while we were in the restaurant, we enjoyed it. I only wished I had picked up that particular drummette and discovered it being raw while I was there, so it could have been corrected. You can’t be out here serving...
Read moreVisited on 2/27/22 @ 1645. Online order and window pickup. Food was ready when I arrived. Trevor @ window was very polite and on his game. Food once again did not disappoint. Visited on 10/14/21@ 1800 FIRST VISIT HERE 5 Stars due to a few different things. 1st - Service. Now all I did was order online and use pickup window but WOW!! Order was ready ONTIME and available immediately. Window server was on his game. Very polite, and helpful. 2nd- Spareribs- Tender, Not fall off the bone tender. Perfectly cooked. I like a little more smoke flavor but thats just personal preference. 3rd- Babybacks- Same as above. Perfectly cooked. Pulled meat clean. Did not fall off on its own. 4th- Brisket. I really like having the choice of lean or moist brisket. I chose the moist brisket and I must say VERY good and moist. 5th - Potato Salad - Now I know everyone has their own preference...but I really enjoyed this version. 6th- Beans- WOW not your ordinary baked beans. I feel like a gravy was made here. Way more goes into these beans than meets the eye. The bellpepper chunks and meat kinda throws it over the top! 7th - Mac/Cheese - I felt these were a little ordinary. But none the less good. 8th - Price - I felt at first they were pretty pricey at first 2- 3 Meat plates with 2 sides each. And an appetizer. (~$60) But after looking at the food, we ate supper 2 nights in a row on the food we recieved. So I feel it was a good bang for our buck.
This place was on our usual route we take on a weekly basis. We will...
