UPDATE: 9-17-2024 Came back again for another great meal. Lunch was very good. Burgers were filling and the fries were crispy and flavorful. The atmosphere is, as always, fantastic. Sat inside and had our table by the window, once again. Only one freighter passed by, but it was great to see boat traffic cruising along the St Clair River. Our server wasn't very friendly, but he got the job done. All and all, our visit today was good. *************************************************** July 2023: I was so impressed with this restaurant, that I came back in the Spring 2023 and again, just couple of days ago. This is such a wonderful restaurant in Port Huron and it keeps me traveling over 80 miles (round trip) each time to visit. Another stellar lunch, today, for the 3 of us. Highly recommend the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, the BBQ Beef Brisket and the Fish and Chips. The server Robert was excellent, too. The views are over the top, once again. Of course, more pics of the wonderful food and indoor/outdoor views of this establishment. The atmosphere, both inside and out is fantastic. Can't wait to visit again. Keep up the great work!! Great place to visit when exploring the riverfront of Port Huron. Good food... plenty of fish choices, friendly staff, very clean, nice atmosphere inside, however prices were a bit on the top end. The views of the St Clair River are incredible. During the warm months, there is seating outside to take in the river views, too. Definitely recommend Freighters when visiting Port Huron.

Ok, my last trip to this place was about 7 years ago. Food was excellent, servers were great, had wonderful memories. On my way back from business trip had to charge my car and Doubletree parking lot this restaurant is located have the superchargers, figure what a great opportunity to visit back ... little that I knew sometimes its best to keep great memories in past and move onto new places. Started with initial 30 minute wait turned into 45 minute wait. We were able to sit outside with a wonderful view of water. Menu is way different what it used to. I ordered burger with egg. Either the patty or the egg were fried on a same place with fish, there was some unpleasant taste. I have ordered mayonnaise on the side at the time when I ordered for the food, almost 5 minutes into it, mayo was still not there, had to walk to kitchen myself to get it. Yolk was already seeping by the side of the burger and it was cold by this time which defeated purpose of ordering egg. We also ordered a 12 ounce NY strip steak. Cooked well but extremely fatty. Vegetables and mushrooms on the side were great. Mashed potatoes with garlic were OK. All time eating, were not asked about the food or for a refill. Nice place to sit down, enjoy the water views outside. If you are picky about your food, I would pass. Too sad to see how the place once was so great to grab a bite deteriorated over the years.

I don’t understand some of the complaints of other reviewers. Do they ever go to restaurants besides Chipotle? Regarding the prices: this restaurant is located in a scenic area right by the bridge, and it is targeting mid to upper mid level of the market. Of course it’s not going to have the huge portions and lower prices of the diner down the street from you. Also, prices for food and restaurants are up in general over the past few years. Wait time: go at peak times, wait longer. That’s normal. I had to wait 20 minutes for a table, and food came out within 20 minutes after we ordered, on a Saturday night in the summer. That’s all very normal, unless you are used to drive through. The quality of the food: I had the strip steak that comes with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was a solid medium rare, good seasoning, good crust. The vegetables had good texture, the gravy was flavorful. On top of all of that, I got to see some freighters at Freighters. Menu variety? Vegetarian options? Most of this is standard American fare or adjacent. Blame dining culture in the Great Lakes area if you want, not this restaurant for responding to what the majority of the market wants. A restaurant owner can’t be too quirky when they have the overhead of a desirable location.

It was not good. 2 stars is generous. Honestly I should leave 1 star. It was very overpriced for the quality/taste. I realize it is because it's part of the Hilton, and the quality of food has varied based on which Hilton I'm visiting. But this one isn't a Hilton restaurant I would ever pay to go to again. My burger itself was a bit bland, a bit overcooked, and it didn't taste like the bun was buttered and toasted either. The texture of the beef was a little.... Hard to describe. Like they had bought those little packages of premade burgers from the store, and you bite into one and it is in a sort of string form from the meat grinder. I suspect it was near the end of its shelf life. I prefer my burger meat well mixed, fresh, with some sort of seasoning. Personally I've had better burgers at Fuddruckers. The steak was very overcooked. Very well done instead of pink in the middle. It was tough, and a little bland as well. Would not order again. I've had much better steak at Texas Roadhouse, or even Sam's when they have a lady cooking and sampling their sirloin! Look at how overcooked this steak is!! It was supposed to be medium (pink in the middle). The outside was BURNT. I can make a better steak myself in a frying pan.

Was in the area to pick up items and decided to grab a light dinner while we were there. Surprised at the lack of restaurants on the water. Found Freighters Eatery & Taproom with a search on Google Maps and decided to give it a try. Glad we did. Don’t let the hotel restaurant deter you from going. This could be a standalone restaurant and do well. Maybe even better since people have issues with hotel restaurants when not traveling. The views of the river were great inside and outside. Had the Pork Wings and Steak Crostini appetizers. Perfect appetizer portions. Also had the clam chowder. Clam Chowder was good. Had a little spice kick which was a pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the wings and crostini. The wings may have been a little on the dry side of my personal preference, but the flavor was still good. There were so many items on the menu that I would like to try. Next time I’m in the area again I’ll be sure to bring a bigger appetite and try an entree. The food coming out for the other tables looked good so I’m confident anything I would have picked would have been good as well. Dinged service because our waiter disappeared without saying anything. Fortunately another staff member handled refills and the bill.

Definitely ask for a view of the water! Although, apparently we should have made reservations… who knew?!? They had a retirement party and a wedding happening as well as the restaurant open when we were there. Needless to say, they were busy! Freighters is attached to the Blue Water Convention Center and Double Tree Hotel, but the restaurant overlooks the St. Clair River with amazing views! It’s fun to watch the ships, trucks driving across the bridge and just wave to our Canadian friends from across the river. Our waiter (Brandon?) sure had his hands full! He was also attending to the wedding party as well as our row of booths along the windows. We started with the artichoke dip as we arrived right before happy hour was ending. The dip was really good and I would totally order it again. We had that gone in record timing. I ordered the Mesa Chopped Salad and let me tell y’all, it definitely had a kick to it! I’m not usually a spicy fan, and this had my mouth on fire a bit… I ate it, but really wish I had been warned a bit. The chicken was really good though!
