Don Julio's Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Port Lavaca

I walked in, no one greeted me, all 3 female staff were on their phones. After a minute of looking back and forth between us I ordered without being asked if I wanted to dine in or do take out because they decided to continue being on their phones. When I was done ordering was when they actually started to get on the register to charge me, mind you my order was plain and simple not complicated or a variety of different items on the menu. I paid then waited, while I waited I was given my drink. I waited some more and then out of no where one of the female staff screams and starts laughing saying oh that cockroach scared you. I looked at her surprised and shocked, we made eye contact and she looked embarrassed that she said it out loud then she scurried to the kitchen where the other person had scream too and I was left there waiting while the other female staff continued being on their phones. From beginning to end I received nasty looks, bad service, and to top it off my order usually comes with chips and salsa this time they excluded it and didn’t bother telling me why. A gentleman is usually that helps us but when the females help it’s a very icky service and now sounds like the food is matching...

My family and I came to eat here from out of town to enjoy a meal and this place is terrible to come eat at. Food is high priced , they charge you high gratuity even if it’s just 1 adult. We were 2 adults and 4 kids . I only ordered 3 meals for the kids since my daughter wasn’t so hungry . (I had bought a kids meal from what’a burger for her) I was told this would be the last time I bring food from the outside, which I get it , but I felt it should have been more discreet and not loud in front of everyone including my children. My daughter did not end up eating because she felt like she got us in trouble in some way. Personally this is my first and last time I ever come here.

-Parking is unsafe here -people are rude -food was okay but not good enough to be around 25$ a meal not including drink -they only offer 1 kids plate , if your child wants anything else they will charge you an adult meal -they claim gratuity has to be 15% you don’t have a choice, you have to pay -they charge for to go boxes Men’s restroom is dirty and lights are low -Women’s restroom have one out of order

I would keep tying and post everything else I notice badly but I really just wanted to leave...

They brought out 1/2 basket of chips and a half filled cup of salsa, for two people whom ordered (2) $14.99 meals. Also ordered a pina coloda - they were out, so ordered a Strawberry Daiquiri and a margarita on the rocks, it was made frozen, not on the rocks. When asked for another basket of chips, the waitress got the menu and showed it would cost extra. I ask her if we had sat at separate tables how many baskets she would have brought out. She smiled and brought out another one but charged $4.49 for them. She did bring more hot sauce, after I ask her to. This used to be our favorite Mexican food in PL but have decided to go elsewhere in the future. Been patronizing this establishment since August 2022. We don’t live in PL but are here frequently since we own a house here. We have always recommended them to family and friends when in Port Lavaca, but now they have lost recommendations and a steady customer, due to the extra charge on chips and by not paying attention to the order and making sure it was correct. Food was fair in taste, but temperature of it...
