Pour Neches ... PORCH Neches! Felt kinda like hanging out under porch covers (or under beach cabins on Crystal Beach). Open air bar and restaurant on the Neches River and has places for the family to play games (pickleball & ...)
Please ask if guests want bar-stool vs bench style seating. I'm short and it's a bit of a pain to climb them and sit on the stools (no, you can't move once you're seated [but I guess that's a bar thing when people go play the games?]).
Food? I got fried shrimp and hush puppies. The dip I got with it ended up being ranch (not labeled on the menu or offered). I asked and the waitress didn't seem to believe that I really did want the ranch and kept offering tarter sauce even when I told her my preferences. It all tasted really good though. The kids at the table didn't "like" what they got but only because they had already eaten but insisted on ordering anyway. Whatever, silly goose. We will exclude their opinion. But all 4 foods came at different times. I've got separate opinions on the menu.
Atmosphere? Family friendly-ish. It is bar heavy, of course. I went at lunch so, not really drink focused at the time. Again, open air so be aware of potential flying or crawling critters. You're up against the river so you're either going to expect mosquitoes or the breeze to keep them away. Prepare for whatever environment. It's southeast Texas so humid and hot. Decor is waterfront theme a bit but isn't over the top. Keeps it simple without overdoing it.
Upper level is bar only and they said it was for "overflow" for the main bar if people want food.
Did I get a drink? Yeah. A frozen pina colada which melted pretty much immediately (but I was craving the flavor, I knew what to expect there). No biggie. Decent serving, glad there wasn't a garnish. I didn't really look at pricing because of other circumstances. But again, it is a bar. Maybe stick with the standards or their signatures.
Not mad about it. Not blown away....
Read moreThis place is not for me. The atmosphere was okay. Basically an outdoor sports bar. The metal stools are awful! When out to diner and visiting I would like to sit back and relax. Nope, not happening here. And in addition, they had a live singer who was so loud, you had to holler to the people in the group to hear each other. But, the main problem was the food! Honestly, my entree was probably the worse food I have had anywhere, ever. As an appetizer we tried the boudin dip. It was just okay. Dry. Very small portion. My entree was DEPLORABLE and inedible. I got the Shrimp by the Bank, which is supposed to be a lemon butter garlic sauce over linguine pasta. I promise you, it was nothing but lemon juice over pasta. There was absolutely NO butter or garlic to be had. No seasoning, nothing. I couldn't even eat the shrimp alone because this sauce was so bad. I only ate the toast. My husband got a Riverfront burger, he said it was just ok. My son got the Traditional burger. He is the one who likes to go here but his complaint is he said every time he has gone the burger has been wrong. One time he requested no pickles, he got pickles, the second time he got the wrong cheese he requested, and last night they didn't even put the smash sauce on the burger! That is honestly someone being VERY lazy in the kitchen. I am almost 100% convinced the kitchen didn't make my meal properly. I just cannot even imagine that this restaurant would serve a dish that tasted so badly. In addition, the drinks were bad. My husband received a beer that was barely cold. After a few sips it was already room temperature. I don't recall the drink I ordered but it was served in a VERY small glass and it tasted terrible. The ONLY redeeming quality was our waitress was sweet as can be. I still tipped her nicely because it isn't her fault that they kitchen and bar sucks. We will NOT...
Read moreWe tried the new place out this past Thursday! It definitely feels like you’re not in SETX anymore but somewhere on vacay! The staff were all super nice. It was 11:30am, so not super busy yet. We sat at the bar, which is huge and plenty of elbow room. Was it hot? Yes. But glad we went early in the day. Go planning to be hot since it’s all outside seating. It is covered, there are fans, but we were definitely wiping sweat constantly. Order a frozen drink and it’ll help!
My husband got crawfish. He said they were good, but not great. He got the garlic option. I got the pickle burger because I have been SOOOOO excited about it since I saw it on their page. It was just ok. It had ONE pickle on it. And barely any sauce. Nothing like the picture. I was kinda let down. But will be back to try the pickle pizza.
The drinks are good. Just not strong. People that order drinks want to get a buzz (or at least we do, lol) we felt nothing. Husband got a patron marg on the rocks, a suggestion is to do them in the fishbowls! It’s in a tall slim glass with almost nothing in it. I got the “shmashly” and it was delish! But again, low alcohol.
All n all, we will be back to try other stuff no doubt!!...
