I arrived for a late dinner and ordered a selection entitled "Shrimp Teriyaki" that I saw in the menu for something like $10.95. I pointed to it and told the waitress that's what I wanted. There was a choice of miso soup or salad, and I ordered the miso soup. I also ordered a salmon sushi roll because I figured for $11 there probably wasn't that much shrimp teriyaki.
First the miso soup arrived. It was okay, but slightly below average in taste and a bit more "dense" than I like.
The sushi roll arrived thereafter and it was good. Nothing extraordinary, but the typical American version of sushi one gets in most sushi restaurants.
Finally the shrimp teriyaki arrived. The presentation was top-notch, possibly the most beautiful platter of shrimp teriyaki I've ever seen, though not a large portion, with large grilled fantail shrimp and vegetables beautifully arranged. Unfortunately, the shrimp tasted "off" — not very fresh.
The service was friendly but rather perfunctory, especially considering I was practically the only one eating in the restaurant at the time. The head waitress (not the one who had served me) appeared at my elbow while I was eating the shrimp and asked "How is everything?" I turned toward her and began to answer, "Well…" but she had already begun walking away! After a couple of bites of the "off" shrimp I did not eat any more of it.
I then went to the cash register to pay and had another surprise. Apparently the shrimp teriyaki dish I had pointed to on the menu was a lunch selection, but they had bought me the dinner version, which cost about twice as much. I explained to the head waitress who was ringing me up that I understood I had made a mistake, but that I had pointed to the $10.95 version and said "this is what I want" and the waitress did not bother informing me of my mistake but merely bought me (and charged me for) the dinner version. The head waitress merely shrugged; no price reduction or apology was forthcoming. I also mentioned to her that I could not finish the shrimp because it was not fresh and her only response was "I will be sure to tell the chef." Again, no apology or offer of a price reduction.
Altogether, not the best dining experience. Next time I'll go to Roy's Sushi on St. Lucie West Boulevard, which has better ambience, better food, and isn't any...

Read moreBeen to Naiya many times, food and service always good. Restaurant never crowded. Went tonight, had a reservation at 530 for 6 people. Place was full, the fullest I have ever seen. We were seated at 530. Took about 30 mins for our orders to be taken. Some time went by before our salads came out. It was 700 when we got our meals. I ordered stir fry mixed vegetables. Portion was lunch size. Vegs were broccoli, cabbage and snow peas. Supposed to have bean sprouts and baby corn (I requested no carrots or celery). Another person at the table ordered stir fry with shrimp and cashews. Her meal came without the shrimp. Her bill included a salad which she did not order. Waitress brought us one bowl of vegs to share and add to our dinners. Another person had teriyaki chicken which she said was dry and over cooked. We didn't get out until 745. A leisurely dinner is fine, but, service was extremely slow and we had someplace to be by 800. Waitress was doing the best she could with the number of tables she was waiting on. Not sure hmwgat was going on in...
