Over my life-time living in the Kalamazoo/Portage area I’ve more than likely contributed Several hundreds of income into this specific location. It’s been a pleasant spot to enjoy during the summer months. However, after today I will always take the route of a culver’s or Sonic. Around 7:00Pm 7/13 Saturday... me and my girlfriend visited this Dairy Queen for our occasional ice cream stop. I ordered my Large Cherry dipped cone, which had always been my go-to. and for my Girlfriend, a rootebeer float. We paid, took our seats, and after 1 sip my girlfriend had told me it was very flat, even said “ew”...I took a sip to validate, and it honestly tasted like old room temperature root beer with ice cream on top. It was so disgusting I spit it out onto the ground, I immediately recommended she take it back for an exchange. After saying she wanted a new float, she walked up to the window, only to be DECLINED a new float under the explanation that “our pop always tastes flat” okay? Then FIX IT....after hearing this I was FLOORED I calmed down, and took it to the window myself to ask for atleast an exchange on this $4 waste of money. I was told by a woman named “Katie”? I believe, her name started with either a K or a C ...but regardless, with an attitude and an over all suspicion that I was trying to rip this location off...I was told that because it was sipped out of, they refuse to take it back and refund or exchange the drink. I told them, that’s common, and I’m not asking for them to take it back, I’m asking for an EXCHANGE FOR MY PURCHASE. I was told the best they could do is offer the smallest possible size vanilla cone, and because they are privately owned and operated, every penny counts. And even then when I accepted, to avoid me blowing up in anger....I still was rudely told to throw the drink away after she slid it towards me, then I was given my ice cream, and had the window closed on me. This was enough for me to vow to NEVER purchase from Dairy Queen again. You cared so much about the 50 cent root beer cost that you lost two regular customers for life. I’ve never experienced anything like this before, where employee error...failure to keep your fountain machine fresh and carbonated...resulted to me being argued with and ultimately denied even a freaking...

Requested sprinkles on a cone at the drive thru, got to the window and saw that it didn't have sprinkles. I asked if sprinkles could be added and the drive thru attendant rolled her eyes and audibly groaned then forcefully put the cone to the side (bottom of the cone was crushed when she handed it back). I explained that it was part of my order and I apologized to her if it was not heard. She was very aggressive afterward, thrusting the rest of the items at me through the window.
I honestly figured she was having a terrible day as working in the service industry is not what it used to be. While grabbing a $5 dollar bill to tip her and make an attempt at improving her day, I asked her to hang on for a second and she SLAMMED the window and turned her back to me. My kids got to watch all of this behavior. We just wanted some ice cream to perk us up, as we were coming from a funeral.
There are a LOT of other options in the area that have better service, even mediocre would have...
Read moreWe’ve lived in the area very close to this location for a little over 2 years now. Because it’s so convenient we do go here a lot! Bike rides, walks, or just a trip to Dairy Queen. The lady who is always working I’m assuming she’s the “owner” is SO RUDE! Not only to me but to children as well. To the point where my daughter hates going up to the window to ask for anything when we go. She hardly ever smiles. The last few times we went it was like their ice cream machine wasn’t working and the blizzards were like soup!! If you ever go here and have to ask for something to be replaced beware she will slam the window in your face and treat you horribly! The ONLY reason I continue to go back is because I have kids and it’s conveniently right down the street from my house if it wasn’t for them she wouldn’t get another...
