I stopped by on some travels for lunch. I had Dr. Pepper for my drink, and though they only had cans of it, I was still provided with a glass of ice next to it. I ordered the tenderloin steak dinner with chicken dumpling soup, corn (vegetable of the day), and mashed potatoes with gravy. The chicken dumpling soup seemed to be a typical recipe; the dumplings were very soft and nearly melted in my mouth. Lovely! I ordered the steak as medium rare, and it was cooked beautifully as such. The seasoning and au jus were rather plain, but that did leave the door open to add salt and A1 sauce to it (provided at the table and by the waiter, respectively), which I highly reccomend. The mashed potatoes were lovely with the beef gravy. I asked for my gravy on the side as I am a bit picky, but after testing a small amount of it first, I poured all of it on my potatoes! It has a subtle sweet flavor rather than salty, and it is very thick. The corn was a bit too sweet, but well cooked. Everything was very filling, and I took leftovers with me for dinner. The waitress, Heather, was very lovely and I give her 5 stars! The restaurant itself has a very typical Mid-Wisconsin family restaurant feel to it. There was no music but the happy conversations of the other guests around me filled the quiet very well. I love the style of the tables and chairs! Compliments...
Read moreWe were eager to try the restaurant because they had so many options. My daughter has multiple food allergies (nuts, sesame, soy) which have been accommodated in many restaurants all over the country. The manager said because they were so busy they couldn’t possibly scrape off part of the grill to prepare anything for her -pancakes, French Toast, an omelette - and the fry pans they have were too small to make an omelette as they just get stuck - despite that being the same size we use at home and we’ve seen used in countless restaurants- and even if they could use the pans for a skillet, all the frying pans were being used. I wasn’t looking for anything more than we have been offered in sooo many other restaurants, just a little consideration and the minor inconvenience of having to clean a section of grill and use clean utensils. The waitress at least seemed empathetic and felt bad they couldn’t do anything, so we tipped her well for the $10 in beverages we were served. The manager and owner basically said they were too busy to serve her. If you have allergies, you may as well keep looking for a different place to eat. They’re not interested in...
Read moreI have frequent this restaurant a few times now. I will say our experience has differed each time. But the bill anytime I come in with my family makes its way to our table before we are offered any desert or if we would like anything else. That’s not a big deal today. I’m here because I forced bites into my mouth on today with disgust as our waitress explained how her kid was sickly at school and in detail, followed by “she and I are in the same boat”. Imaging this could be a contagion and you come in to work with no regards to the many immune compromised patrons of the establishment. I just left with half my dish remaining unfinished but fully paid for with a tip included. This was not ok. In a restaurant I would love to know that I can safely eat my food without potentially becoming ill due to staff negligence. If I would not have heard it I could not complain. But the thing is I heard it! The conversation was continued casually. I’m a parent and I understand children get sick especially school age. But we have to be responsible and considerate of others especially in...
