Village Tavern — Restaurant in Porter

Food and service were good. Especially the fish dinner. Reminded me of northern Wisconsin Friday night fish fries. Burger was good but it was a frozen patty, not handmade like the menu says. Was not medium rare as ordered. Tasted rubbery and more like a turkey patty. No where as good as Octive Grill, Gastro 49 or the Chesterton Brewery.

All the bartenders are great but Robbyn is the best!

Men’s bathroom is ridiculous. Never saw anything so awful. I’m 6’ - 2”, 240 lbs and could barely fit through the door. Sink is in a tiny stall with the toilet that has a door to it. Urinal on the other side. Had to wait almost 10 minutes for someone to finish before I could wash my hands. Needs a complete makeover. Owner needs to spend some money on upgrades.

And we will not return until they ban smoking. If you eat or drink inside you’ll have to remove all your clothes and take a shower as soon as you get home. The cigarette smell...

Went for Memorial Day lunch bc it was one of the few places open. I got the fish basket (as I have in the past) and my husband got the patty melt sub onion rings. Unfortunately the food was meh. I've had their fish basket before with hand breaded fillets that you could tell were real bc their shapes were all different and the better was uneven. Instead I got 3 uniform triangle shaped pieces of freezer fish. Fries were good, coleslaw sucked- minced and soupy. But I was super disappointed about the fish. Husband's sandwich was meh. Burger patty thinned out and kinda rubbery. No crispy edges. And the sauce was not patty melt sauce. Don't know what it was tho. Also, to substitute a half order of onion rings instead of fries it was $5.50. Ridiculous. Service was awesome, everything was ordered correctly. Just wish lunch...

OK, here goes ... They don't like dogs here, even legitimate Medical Service Animals. I understand why people with phony Service Animals cause problems, but my buddy was there to help keep me alive. I was warned and discouraged by Staff not to use my Service Animal there prior to even bringing him in ... I should have went elsewhere. In general, the food is good. People are OK, but the 'regulars' are very cliquish and certain bartenders perpetuate that 'atmosphere' ... typical petty Bar Politics and personalities. The attitude about Service Animals has got to go ... before they get SUED and Fined $125,000 per ADA Violation. ...
